Hehe - hopefully all those server improvements prevent this from happening again. It would be nice to get some of the old threads back, if only to know where we left off.

Zappdogg, here's a little blurb on just how much video is being pushed across the internet these days.

"Among Internet video streamers, the average amount of video watched per user was 158 minutes [per month], more than 2.5 hours."

Just a quick calculation - at ~4 MB/s for small, highly compressed video, that's ~6,400 MBytes per user per month, or over 20MB per day. I remember only a couple years ago making do with a total Hotmail storage of 10MB, probably using much less than 1MB per day. I know I'm SUPPOSED to have a 10Mbps (1.25MBps) connection speed, but I rarely see even half of that, and I notice that it's hard to get good download speeds on peer-to-peer networks these days.

HEY TIM
VIDEO IS DEFINETELY THE WORST CULPRIT. I FIND MYSELF USING STREAMING VIDEO A LOT MORE OFTEN. FOR P2P I USE LIMEWIRE AND SOME DAYS IT WORKS GREAT BUT OTHERS IT SITS IDLY BACK. I DOUBT THAT THERE IS ANY INTERNET CONNECTION LEFT OUT THERE THAT WOULD HAVE MUCH BETTER SPEED. I ALSO AM ON 10MBps. WHEN I FIRST STARTED PLAYIN WITH LIMEWIRE I USED TO GET TOTAL DOWNLOAD SPEEDS OF 600-800KBps REGULAR AND OVER 1000 ON A GOOD DAY. NOW ITS CLIMBS ALL THE WAY UP TO ABOUT 150-200. THAT WAS A FEW MONTHS AGO, I HAVEN'T CHECK LATELY.
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK TIM. GREAT LINK ALSO.
DR.Z

Hi guys! Thought I would split your topic in to it's own thread. Partly because you were off topic but mostly because I haven't tried to split a thread before! lol I needed the practice.

I'm supposed to have 5000 kbps down and 300 kbps up but it rarely gets that fast. I'm with rogers and they always blame neighbourhood traffic.

As for P2P, I do a lot of torrenting and find I get the best results by using the port reserved for SKYPE and the like.

If you guys don't know about this site for testing your speed, you have to try this. It's cool.
