Join us for Earth Hour 2009!

Thank you Canada for making Earth Hour 2008 a huge success! Collectively, we have the power to send an even stronger message with Earth Hour 2009!

Join WWF for Earth Hour 2009, by turning out your lights for one hour on Saturday, March 28 from 8:30-9:30pm! Earth Hour is a global lights-out phenomenon that will bring together millions of people from around the world to show support for action on climate change. This symbolic event will demonstrate to governments around the world that we want action on climate change now.

Already, hundreds of cities in more than 70 countries have pledged their support for Earth Hour, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax. In 2008, millions of people in more than 35 countries participated. This year already, the number of countries participating has more than doubled, putting Earth Hour 2009 well on the way to meeting WWF's global goal of one billion participants!

This year there is special significance, as Earth Hour will also provide a global call to action to world leaders meeting in Copenhagen in December 2009 to strike a new global deal on climate change. A new agreement is pivotal because in 2012, the Kyoto Accord, the most significant international agreement to control greenhouse gas emissions, will expire.

Make every hour Earth Hour

Symbolic events like Earth Hour are important to ensure government and businesses continue to take action in the fight against climate change. Our hope is that Earth Hour will inspire people to keep taking action every day. Each of us has a role to play through actions such as recycling, composting, using compact fluorescent light bulbs, etc.

I'll do my utmost to shut off some things, but I am not turning off BOINC. Seriously. The lights, the fridge, the television, sure... but some things are more important...

lol

So once in a while i click an advertising banner here at the forum just to see where it takes me.

The black one that says "Proud Sponsors" and then has the logos of CBC , Coca Cola and sears took me here.

http://www.wwf.ca/earthhour/

Actually as I type this there is an ad for Nature Canada ""Let's stop Global Warming - Sign our petition" lol

I like that the ads aren't just for games and such.

Nice excuse to maintain/upgrade network & keep the "[s]dummies[/s]" from pestering me at the weekend  I'll shutdown the net from 20:30 Sat to 08:30 Sun (the money saved in electricity might just buy a Phenom II 940  ).

Sign up today!

There are only three days left until Earth Hour, WWF's global call to action on climate change. On March 28, the world will be sending a strong united message to the world leaders - and we need you to be part of the action!

Canada has the third highest number of cities signed up for Earth Hour, with over 250 cites, towns and municipalities ready to turn out the lights! There are tens of thousands of people on Facebook talking about how they will be celebrating Earth Hour and people across the country are Twittering about the big event.

We still need your help! WWF is asking people to register your participation at EarthHourCanada.org. Even if you are already planning to turn out your lights for Earth Hour, please lend your name to the cause so WWF can track and report on participation here in Canada, and around the world, to show world leaders that Canadians want action on climate change, and are ready to be part of the solution. Make your voice heard today - sign up at EarthHourCanada.org!

And remember... by signing up you also have a chance to win a trip for two to visit the polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba! If you have already signed up, you can still be entered in the contest. Just go to EarthHourCanada.org, re-register, and then check the box that says you want to be entered in the contest. It's that easy!
