Received an e-mail recently from Einstein regarding a discovery made & also stating that I'd not crunched it for some time. As I'd recently hit my 1 mill target on ABC, decided to run Einstein for my next project to hit 1 mill.

Unfortunately, all 3 rigs that I have running it are erroring out with computational errors which does not make sense as nothing has changed on my rigs since I last ran it.

Anyone else running Einstein at the moment & experiencing problems?

Haven't run Einstein for a while now so I can't help you out on this one. Try resetting the project and see if it helps...

Must have been a gremlin as wu's running hot & normal & reporting in successfully.....

@Ex-Brit, that is unusual as I'm getting them by the bucketload.....

Got a couple of 100 with 22 left to crunch atm

Really? then something's wrong somewhere... I've had to set NNT as all 3 rigs were inundated with nothing but Einstein wu's.

Think there must have been problems with the 1st lot of wu's d/l'ed as 75+% were erroring out, hence the NNT. But since the 2nd lot d/l'ed, no errors, so thinking of allowing new tasks through.....

Well the only one inundating my machine was Milkyway so I lowered its resource share and upped Einstein's, but all it get is as shown in the attached.

Try clearing your short and long term debt (use BOINCDV or do it manually)...

You're talking way above my head I'm afraid. I have no idea what that's all about.

Essentially Boinc keeps track of how many resources a project has used by applying a debt number to it. It does so on short term (to balance daily wu requests for actively running projects) and long term debt (for balancing projects over the long run). If you've been running Einstien a lot and have a newer project with equal resource share added but less work done, BOINC will opt to run the newer project to equalize the debts between the two projects. BoincDV was simply a utility created to help you clear these easily (can be found here - http://www.skipsjunk.net/info/boincdv.html). A bit of a concise description, but hopefully good enough :)

Sounds useful but before I install another application how does one interpret those figures I see on the UI?

Just downloaded it (Thanks User312).

From what I can see & understand, the higher the number, the greater the debt so other projects have preference via boinc. Also, I gather that resource share also influences the decision.

To date, I don't think that I've had any debt issues as all the projects I'm attached to (over 40) have the same resource share (that's not saying there isn't any).

Edit: -

Saying that... are the numbers minutes or hours?

Haven't used it for about a year, but from what I recall +ve numbers mean it's done lots of work, -ve means it needs some catch up time. Add them all together and they zero out. I've reset debt a few times in the past without issue so it's a fairly safe process.

Edit: Alright - just ran it for fun; you need to put it in your BOINC folder, stop BOINC, and then when it prompts for a file name, just choose client_state.xml and it will create a client_state.xml.bak file so if something screws up you can always revert. Quick and painless, all debt erased - wouldn't it be nice if monetary debt was as easy to erase? :haha:
