Seems freeforums.org had some techicinal difficults last night

I would like to apologize for the forums who lost data over the past few hours. We experienced a hard drive failure on our main database server. This was an unfortunate incident that could not have been avoided by either our host or our administrators.

We've done everything we can to recover the data, unfortunately most of the data was recovered corrupt. Forums that weren't moved to the new server will be reverted to a prior backup. Any non-existent forums will need to be re-created.

We have taken measures to stop such service interruptions, as well as the slowness/downtime you have been seeing over the past few weeks. We will be using a clustered network solution, in case of one server failing there will be others to take its place. Therefore, what happened last night will never be able to happen again.

We expect to have the network upgrade completed by Monday, July 23rd. The new server network --which sets the stage for our phpBB3 release-- boosts total redundancy in almost all areas, increased processing power for faster load speeds, and a 24/7 backup system in place to make sure your data is always safe. In addition, we will have the backup mod online within a few days so customers can safely download a forum backup to their computer.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience. We value you as a customer and look forward to providing an even better service after the network upgrade is completed.

Right now several forums are missing almost a months worth of data including ours
some have totally disappeared

probably by Monday we'll know if they can recover anymore

I know members were lost, i was a member on another forum ( with free forums) and i was wiped out

I even posted the same notice as Frank, yesterday at around noon, and I see it's gone!
That whole whack of smiley's I added (one at a time over the course of an afternoon), GONE!
The Lounge, which I have a copy of and can put back up, POOF!
About 10 Forum member accounts, ADIOS!
About 200 - 250 posts (depending on the forum section, between 2 days and 2 weeks worth) SAYONARA!

It sucks but thats life I guess. All we can really do is wait for it to stabilize a little and add the stuff we need back.
As for changing hosts, well, it's a toss up between reliability and features. FreeForums has had TERRIBLE reliability
But offers the most free added features than any of it's competitors. Also (supposedly) unlimited space meaning we
never have to delete anything if we don't want to (They just upgrade something and it's done automatically! lol ).

ANYONE OUT THERE WANT TO SET UP A SERVER FOR CANADA?!

if you need help for make a forum or a irc server, you can tell me about it.
I have a large website and a personal server IRC with reverse.net (unreal+anope). You can have your acces ftp and mysql

i found here new boinc's projects with Grizz (thank's you), i can help you for this with pleasure.

DARN SERVERS EH?? I THOUGHT I'D GOTTEN TOSSED FROM THE SITE YESTERDAY FOR PUSHIN PUPPY LINUX SO MUCH. HA HA ON ME. THEY LOST ALL MY POSTS AND MY AVATAR. GONNA HAVE TO LOAD THAT BACK IN. IF MY RANKING IS STILL PUPPY PUSHER THEN THERE WILL BE A BIT MORE PUSHIN THE PUPPY.

I lost three quarters of all the posts and I even lost my own login and avatars, I decided to suspend my forum until I can find one thats more reliable and one that can take flash and html posts and signatures, going to be a long search but if it means reliability well i dont mind

Not a user of Freeforums as mine are all on dedicated servers, but are you guys able through admin panel to do a MySql dump of your tables?

"backup" to recover all account of yours members and all posts of a website and for to change your shelterer
("shelterer" is freeforum for you, i don't know if that word is really good)

Restore mySQL for transfert may be not possible on this type of forum.
It is a big problem with free land, but is cheap
