PS3Grid now has a boinc project for Nvidia GPUs...

http://www.gpugrid.net/

July 17, 2008 Launch of GPUGRID.net, BOINC on GPUs
Finally GPU computing on BOINC! After delivering BOINC on Playstation last year, we are happy to announce that from today we are are able to distribute workunits on Nvidia GPUs. PS3grid.net and the new website GPUGRID.net go along to create a large infrastructure for biomolecular simulations. To run GPU workunits simply follow the instructions on the website. Apart from us, this was made possible by a strong collaboration with BOINC developers and in particular David Anderson at Berkeley and Stefan and Keith from the BOINC community, already moderators at ps3grid. We also want to thank Nvidia for their important support.

I'm getting a few of my gaming boxes ready! :)

The project seems to use the same account details (so far) as PS3Grid so you might be able to use it as well for the same project.

Ya.. so does GPUGrid.. the only problem is, I don't have access to any 64-bit CPUs, running linux and using Nvidia GPUs....

GPUGrid is the same site, just a different URL so they can change the PS3 image to a video card image at the top right corner. :)

Too bad I just bought a pair ATI 4870's for my game rig
Looks like I'm stuck running Folding@Home GPU client
I don't have any nVidia cards here

Maybe I'll break down and buy one to try these new clients

CUDA runs on G8x's, G9x's and G200's
GeForce 8x00's, 9x00's and GTX 2x0's GPU's

It might work on boards with 8100, 8200 and 8300 chipset but it will be really slow

Here is the list

FYI PS3 grid (GPU Grid) is now running BOINC on windows xp, vista, 2000, and Linux.
And you can run it wih 32 or 64 bit OS.

If anyone has a Nvidia card in their box's you can crunch for ps3 grid now.

I have one card in my quad and I run 1 ps3 grid result, and 3 others from other projects, so the skinny is it takes up one of your cpu's per card.

It is leveled to run 4 results at one time if you have 4 cards in your machine. It will take from 8 hours to 1 day to finish a result, with a credit of 2000-4000 per result, and depending on how good of card you have in your machine. I see some of these cards have 232 cores now!!!

There will be a mac app added in a few weeks for those of us with mac's.

Before creating an account & attaching, I downloaded the 3 pieces of the Cuda software as suggested by gpugrid.net. Installed them, then went back to site & created account.

According to the site, my Geoforce 8500GT is compatible. Ideas anyone?

you should download the new version of boinc, then it will work, sorry I didn't mention it before, the new gpu version needs the new version of boinc. Hope it helps.

Thanks Philze. Will give it a try, even though, at the moment, I'm not happy about installing any V6 of Boinc as I think they still have issues with it.

Upgraded to Boinc 6.2.18. Still getting this: -

Will leave it open so that it keeps checking in. It may be that it's as Grizz stated, no wu's available at the moment.

only other thing is the cuda software, did you open the Nvidia Cuda SDK pack.

I had the same problem, and they do not explain it very well on the web site. Do you have the Nvidia cuda sdk icon on your desktop? If you do open it up then update your Boinc client to get tasks.

Off to work Hope it helps. Phil

Thanks for the tip, Philzie. Did that & still same problem. Decided to run all the tests in the SDK & rig passed all except the Bitonic Sort test - It kept producing the dreaded BSOD.

So uninstalled the cuda software & giving PS3Grid a miss for the time being. So far, no problems with Boinc 6.2.18, so will leave it installed.

CUDA is out on SETI beta. I just did some checking around, and Seti has released a cuda client for nvidia cards on their astropulse units. I have just downloaded a few to test em out. Lets see what a couple hundred core video card does with em. I'll fill you in with some results when they are done.

I messed up my first post about seti. The new client does regular seti units and astropulse ones.

With the card cranked up to full speed the new seti client crunches a normal 2-3 hour( on my quad 6600 cpu) work unit in about 10 min. So with just a few done and some simple math I think this card pulls a little under gpugrid for credits per hour. But it does work.

I did notice it gets the fan going on the card way more than gpu grid.

I wish they'd start using OpenCL soon, :?!:
I only have one nVidia card.
I have 9 ATI cards sitting and waiting for this stuff.
I have two boxes I can shoehorn 4 cards each

From what I have read Nvidia has helped out GPUGRID with code, moved on to Seti, and more projects in the works with their CUDA master plan. I think it's a good move for them to get the whole BOINC community crunching with their video cards. With a million or so computers out there that could be millions of dollars to be made selling video cards.

Feel for ya Frank, maybe time to join the dark side. Nvidia black edition xfx 280 oc. Or wait till next month when the 295 comes out. The 295 is a 480 core 300 watt monster, that only takes up one pci express slot, and keeps the house warm on those cold winter nights.
