it was time as my old box is about 6 years old now and lookin kinda shabby after i dropped it down a flight of stairs (although it was faster and quieter than ever afterward, go figure) so i went out and got this

mobo - http://ca.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=gF ... templete=2
cpu - http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37150
ddr3 - http://www.mushkin.com/Memory/Silverline/998770.aspx
ssd - http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/s ... --ssd.html
gpu - http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.a ... P3-1366-TR
ps - http://www.corsair.com/tx850w.html
display - http://ca.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=SqSPAYIsfecjo9GX
case - http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/crafted_series/lexa_s

i wanted something expandable and as advanced as possible without completely draining my bank account. i got some pretty good deals as it was boxing week and i probably could have scaled back a little to save money but i think i would have compromised what i was trying to achieve, a pretty kick ass puter now that can adapt easily over the next 5 to 6 years with no major purchases needed (crosses fingers. knocks wood).

i know i shoulda asked yer opinion before :P but whaddaya think? i never had true HD before and i'm lovin it! The speed difference between this and my old p4 3.02 is jaw dropping to say the least

Rightfully so too Pawly
Pretty nice system
That vid card will help your Boinc stats.
What do you think of those SSD's ? Noticeable improvement in speed ?
A paper weight is about all mine is good for after seeing that.

OY! I thought I was the digital mechanic round here..... lmao

nice system Pawly, make sure you look after it & service it regularly.......

Edit....

Talking of names... Pawly, I've just got my own website up & running (not to pleased with it as vistaprint seems to be too restrictive, just waitng on dns registrar to reallocate my .co.uk name to me & will use them for a more professional site)..also got my own support forum(freeforums) for my customers...how do you assign those names?

Congratz on the website and forum Sirius! The ranks can be edited here
Administration Control Panel --> Users & Groups --> Manage Ranks
here you can add new ranks and then assign them to individual users via "Manage Users" in that same menu group.

Great looking system. Looks alot like the one I am going to be putting together soon for myself. :)

I was considering going with 2 - 460's but might go with a 470 due to how much power 2-460's suck up when running with a load. And pretty sure Boinc would be enough of a load to fry my bank account :).

I got a new slab
Asus EeePC netbook. Meant for work but Boinc runs real nice on it.
Dual core plus Nvidia vid. 12" HD screen.
Running EB4, a version of Ubuntu for EeePC. It came with Win 7 but EB4 is better.
5 cores show up in Boinc. That should bring my averages up pretty quick.
Its going to be my Seti@home slab (box)

Well so far I think its a pretty amazing little slab.
When I went looking for an ePC most are around $300.
This one was a $400 on sale for 300 which is how I got a dual core @ 1.8.
Asus 1201n is the model.

In researching its GPU setup I found that it states 16 cores for the Nvidia Ion.
I have 5 cores running in Boinc. So that would be 2 for the CPU but only 3 GPU.
Am I missing a setup somewhere?
Also I have one running in Boinc that says it is using 0.40 CPU + 1.00 Nvidia GPU
Anybody have any info on the Ion series? Maybe this version only uses a few of them for battery conservation in the EeePC's

If you are looking for one of the netbooks, aim for the best you can afford and look for sales. The comparison between this dual core and the normal Atom CPU used in most of the others is astounding. Speed and graphics in this blows the majority of netbooks away.
Portability and budget were the two main concerns.
The 12.1" HD 16:9 screen is very easy to live with. Videos and movies are great. Had it hooked to a 36" LCD and the quality is very good.
Its many times better than I expected from a little netbook
