Welcome Jeff! You're right. SETI got us started down the road of Distributed computing and BOINC is the Mass Transit System that took over!

As for "Are we alone", I personally think that the aliens won't be the typical "Greys" one sees in the movies but will infact take the shape of Smiley's!
