So, I went ahead and downloaded the Multi Beam AK v8 + Astropulse_v5.0 Science Apps corresponding to my CPU found at this page; however, it mentions the .xml modification process right below the download links. When I open of the .zip file readme of the downloaded file, it makes no mention of such a process and the instructions are very straightforward. It says that the included .xml file will do everything automatically for me. Kind of confused here. Is the process mentioned in the thread different, or is the installation indeed automatic and the poster overlooked that fact?

That's an excellent question! I don't have a clue! lol The good thing about BOINC is - if you break it, it can be fixed pretty easily inmost cases! lol

IF the Op/App you Dl'ed wants to self extract and install itself, I would let it. Gecko is a respected and trusted cruncher and the Op/Apps are taken VERY seriously.

However if you don't feel comfortable with that idea, then I'm sure one of our Gurus will be along shortly with some wisdom.
