Nice setup, Streen. Hub...........OUCH. You'd be better off with a switch.

yeah I have no idea where the hub even came from, but the original plan was just for that computer to be connected via wireless, but that was way too slow to transfer files.

I'm getting around 800k/sec back and forth thru the hub sending files one-way, so I wouldnt have alot to gain by getting a switch really would I?

Using 10BaseT should max out at 10Mbps which is 1.25MBps, and I'm getting 800KBps so I can go from 800KBps to 1250KBps?
Or am I workin that out wrong...
I guess that actually does add up when it comes to gigs of data goin back n forth...

Using a hub, the signal is only Half-Duplex (one-way transmission), so with 2 computers connected on a TBase10, the speed drops to 5mbs per computer, whereas a switch provides Full-Duplex (2-way transmission),giving 10mbs per computer.

Another new addition to farm.

Image

Terriffic case, the whole of the front is one big drive bay, taking nine drives in total. As the psu has a 120mm fan, a 120mm exhaust fan & a 230mm side fan, thinking of taking out the 120mm front fan so that all nine bays can be put to good use, but might have to upgrade the cpu cooler as I've put the 9600 quad in. Also thinking of putting 4 backplanes in & using it for Server 2008.

You wouldn't want to see it now:). I'm shuting down the farm next month for spring cleaning and upgrade. After I'm done I'll take a few pics and post it.
Great job you did. Looks verry nice.

Look forward to seeing them. Still waiting to relocate into the property across the road, but unfortunately, the guy's been let down on the rest of the renovation. Have been told that it will take another 4 to 6 weeks before it's ready.

Thinking of purchasing another 2 benches ready for when we move in, as one of the upstairs rooms has no alcoves & I can use 2 together for my own rigs. Will purchase more solid back panels so that I can attach monitors (wall mounts). When done, will post photos.

Naw, already got a good setup, just very untidy (except for new workbench area). Need to tidy up upstairs as it's a nightmare for Andrea when she wants to house clean - she's too scared of moving the cables. Saying that, a tidy up will make it easier for when we move. I can't wait, all that lovely space, I'm just hoping the fusebox can cope with all those extra rigs when I get them built

I thought you were thinking of moving to Ireland?

Hi Timmy, that depends on the results of the (2nd)court case as the 1st one was dismissed in our favour. Should we be fortunate enough to get awarded a large damages amount, then we will definitely be moving back home.

Hi guys, going to be offline for, (hopefully) only several days. Moving home. It's a real PITA but it's needed on health grounds. Shortly before Xmas, both Andrea & I began itching like crazy & didn't think much of it as I put it down to heat rash (very warm here with all those rigs running, especially with 2 new servers running (SBS 2008 & Server 2008 R2).

Unfortunately, Andrea had her Epilepsy checkup recently & doctor instantly diagnosed that she had Scabies, I went to my doctor & I had it as well. We got treatment but it worked only for a short time & got treated again & again & again.

On the last treatment, both doctors questioned us regarding our personal hygiene, which is damned good. Both doctors contacted the local Environmental Health department & they turned up on Tuesday last.....house is riddled with Scabies so they immediately forced us to move & managed to secure a better property for us.

Have already viewed the property & it's the same as the current one, 2 bedroomed semi-terrace...with ONE major difference...all the rooms are 3 times as big as this one. Will be picking up lorry in approx 90 min & should be in new home by 5pm.

Won't have any net access until Thursday afternoon/Friday morning as that is the earliest the engineer had available.

Can't wait to get everything sorted as crunching room will be awesome & will post photo when done.

I miss the old days here in the UK. Our health policies were terrific but since opening borders & the eurotunnel it's got shot to hell.

The amazing thing about this was that shortly after the EH people left on Tuesday, we were watching the local news....

Colchester Hospital in Essex was closed down due to a major contagious outbreak of.........

Wait for it................

SCABIES!

Moving again! Maybe it's time to consider buying that lorry - it might save you some cash in the long run! :P

You got that right!!!!!! I think I'll do what User312 suggested.....buy the blooming lorry!!!!!!

Engineer left about an hour ago. Broadband/TV/Landline setup ok. Only problem is that my isp was bought out by Virgin some time back & they have just changed everything to virginmedia.com.........bye-bye e-mail......apparently they cannot assign our old addies to new account, so setup new addies........setup ok.....but outlook can't find them on Virgin's servers.....nice one Virgin.......

It gets worse, we're freezing here!!!!! Contacted the utility companies over a week ago but they won't reset the meters as there's a large outstanding debt on them......even though we've proved we relocated here on Sunday & that we're regular customers of theirs & it's just a changeover from previous address to current one...they're still refusing to reset....

Right now, Andrea has taken the day off work & gone to her solicitors........

At this moment in time, I'm getting mightily P****D OFF with the UK!!!!!!
