Thankz DR Z!

I started this so we can see each other and know who we are talking with.
Don't be EMBARRASSE. We need all the boxes and every one makes a diff no mather how big or small there setup are.

JPLiz - You look like you could use a KVM in there! I'd post my setup, but that would mean I'd have to clear my desk off so you could see it! Actually, it's not that bad but I tend to have a lot of "ongoing" projects happening around my desk at all times so it's never "photo clean". Currently I've got 8 hard drives I'm testing/cleaning off, one that needs data recovery, a few Linux distros on the backburner for testing and I'm installing a virtualized Windows 2008 Server Beta for testing. All in all I never seem to have my boxes all put together, let alone together and looking nice!

Thats what my wife told me. If you want to take pics, clean that place up first.
Excuse my ignorance but whats a KVM?

KVM =Keyboard, video, mouse device. You can control multiple computers with one keyboard monitor and mouse as seen below

KVM

That's a high end one. You can get 2 ports for about $30

I gotta better idea! Get a really good coffee maker and open up "The JPLiz Internet Cafe"! Looks comfy in there. Nice idea by the way, JP. Once I get around to cleaning my piles of papers and wrappers and whatnot I'll take some pics too. :click:

Sorry about that, sometimes I go into a little bit of techno speak without even thinking about it. As Canadar stated it stands for "Keyboard Video Mouse" device. I've got a 4 port one so all my boxes share the keyboard, monitor and mouse so it saves desk space. Only works if there's only 1 person working at a time on a particular machine (obviously). I do it to split my linux/windows boxes up as well as provide a spot for any spare PC I'm working on at the moment.

Thankz user312. It's a good idea and also saves money too. For us crunchers. We only have to buy the box.

Here is my home set up. Unfinished basement that i cleaned up and set up my area. I have my farm and also gaming as well. I kind of hunted around for what ever was extra and set this up.

Image

Image

Machine on the left below is my gaming\file server. Dual core with Win XP on mirrored array and data on 3x320 GB Raid 5. I have an LTO tape for back up. Machine on right is for gaming as well. Older stuff for memories sake. Dual boots to WIN 98 and WIN XP. Love those older combat flight sim games. I have a dual KVM sitting on top of the machine on the right

Image

The one with the hood open is an IBM 3.2 GHz rig. Damn thing runs super hot when crunching so I had to cut in an extra fan over the CPU to cool it off. I still have to cut a hole in the lid so I can't close it yet. Beside that is an old lap top 1.2 GHz. The monitor failed so I took it apart and removed the wiring so it would not reboot when I closed the lid.

Image

All of these machine have remote desktop enabled so I can connect to them from my laptop upstairs to check on progress.

Canadar

Nice setup! Mine, the one on the left is a 2.3 GHz duel core, the one in the middle is a 2.8 GHz, and the one on the right is a 3 GHz dual thread.

Wow Zapp, I thought I was the only one that worked like that. When I get around to it, I'll take some pics and post them here.

Like Canadar, my crunching area is in the corner of an unfinished basement with the same nice soft pink walls and shiny finish. I think I have more "litter" though so no pics for now. My wife doesn't even come down to my "cave".

Okay so this was a good opportunity to clean up the cesspool I call a computer desk! YEESH!! Here we go!

My computer is a "Bare Bones" system I bought with the hopes of it not being obsolete to quickly! lol In bare bones I mean I
bought the hardware already assembled and none of the software. With the money I saved I upgraded to a 22" Wide Screen.
OH YEAH!! It's a P4 3.06GHz w/ 1G RAM

Image

And Folks !!! Lets not forget a nice comfy recliner to watch all those downloaded movies!!! Cordless Keyboard and Mouse, Of
course! lol This is in a corner of my basement so it tends to be quite cool down here, perfect for leaving it running 24/7.

I think I will invest in a UPS and if/when the power supply pops again (BOINC blew one but it was under warranty 8^D and the
tech I spoke with said it was JUST enough to power this system) I will replace it with something more heavy duty. The Mother
Board (ASUS P5L-MX, HEY, Look! There's the box on the bottom shelf!) is Core2 Ready so I am considering this upgrade as well ..
.... when the warranty runs out of course!! ;^D

With the footrest up and the back reclined, it is almost flat. I've fallen asleep in that chair many times.
