Today I'm battling BSOD! I did the same a couple of weeks ago and lost over a day crunching. I can't help but think that something being updated behind the scenes ins at fault. You just don't run clean for months then *wham* I doubt it's hardware or it would be much more consistent. I've cracked it open, cleaned it, and checked all connections. I installed a new audio driver Windoze suggested I needed and now we're fine. I now have auto-reboot disabled and can't get it to fail. I should have done this earlier, but it's only the 2nd time in my career I've had to battle these things, so it wasn't at the top of my list of things to do. I'll just have to wait till the next silent update :(

If you get a BSOD again, just post the error ids and I'll give you a hand analyzing it (you can also grab the old errors from your event viewer).

YAHOOOO !!!
JUST SCORED ANOTHER BOX.

DELL DIMENSION 4550 SYSTEM
P4 1.8 GHZ WITH 256 MB - 30 G HD - 128 ATI RADEON
COMPLETE WITH 17" MONITOR, KEYBOARD, 2 MICE, AN EXTRA VID CARD, MODEM, AND LARGE ASSORTMENT OF CD'S, ALL FULL MANUALS FOR EVERYTHING.
GOOD PRICE, I THOUGHT.
A FREEBEE. !!!
LOOKS LIKE THE AMD 500 WILL GET REPLACED NOW. WELL AT 3 TIMES FASTER CLOCK SPEED IT SHOULD CRUNCH A BIT BETTER.
IT COULD USE A BIGGER CHUNK OF RAM THOUGH. ITS A BIT SLUGGISH. MAYBE I'LL SET THE DELL AND THE 1.667 AMD UP FOR THE POTM AND LEAVE THE 500 RUNNING SETI FOR NOW. THAT WOULD ABOUT DOUBLE MY POTM NUMBERS.
THINK I'LL GET ON SETTING THAT ONE UP. ITS GOT A PASSWORDED WIN XP ON IT NOW SO IT WILL LIKELY GET XP CORP AND PUPPY ON SEPARATE HD'S.

Users petition Microsoft to save Windows XP

PC users are trying to convince software giant Microsoft Corp. to keep its Windows XP operating system available
beyond the staged withdrawal that starts June 30.

FOR THOSE STILL RUNNING WITH XP (I AM) HERES A GREAT WAY TO SPEED IT UP AND REMOVE SOME OF THOSE IRRITATING WINDOWS POPUPS. JUST SCROLL DOWN THE LIST AND SELECT THE ONES YOU WANT TO REMOVE.
IT TAKES A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND IS REALLY WORTH IT.
THERE IS A PROMISE OF A VERSION FOR VISTA AND WIN 7 COMING SOON

Thanks ZAPP for the information - I've been using the information from this site:

http://www.blackviper.com/

for the past few years (and other than when I turn off the wrong things!!!) have found the information here to be more in depth as well as having more operating systems on site.
