Late summer last year, I purchased 2 mobos - EQS AB1S-RS690MKM AM2. the boards themselves are pretty good & I can find no fault with them. One is Andrea's rig running Vista Business & the other is a desktop running XP X64.

When I purchased the new X4's yesterday, I tried installing the 9600 cpu on the X64 rig - no joy. I did vist their website last year, but could not get anywhere as they had experienced a major fire at their factory last January & that their site would be updated asap.

On trying to visit their site this morning, I got nowhere (www.eqscomputers.com). Without a bois update, these boards are restricted to X2's. Anybody used EQS boards or know of a way round the problem of cpu upgrades?

HEY SIRIUS B
I'M NOT SURE IF THIS WOULD HELP BUT COREBOOT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING THAT COULD WORK.
IF THE COMPANY SUPPORT IS GONE THEN SWITCHING TO A LINUX BIOS MIGHT BE A SOLUTION.

Thanks for the link, Zappdog. Have bookmarked the link as coreboot V3 supports the RS690/SB600 chipset, but it's only in Alpha stage at the moment, so will keep a regular eye on the site.

What motherboard will be the most compliant for the long haul of upgrading in the future? I need a motherboard that will give me the ability to upgrade for years to come. I don't want to buy a new computer for at least 5-8 years, but want to stay up to date as possible with mostly multimedia. What key features should I be looking at, and what recommendations would you offer me?

There's a multitude of factors to take into consideration but the most important one will be your budget. 2nd, the cpu upgrade path is only viable for as long as the manufacturer updates the bios to enable new cpu's for the relevant motherboard.

Then there's the ram to take into account, future ram will not work on a mobo purchased today. So the best option is to buy the best cpu/ram/mobo/psu you can & if funds are not a problem, buy some spare ram which will cover any future failure.

For expansion capabilities, I go for full ATX boards rather than micro-atx.
