HEY ALL YOU SMOKERS !

I KNOW YOU ALL HAVE HEARD ALL THE FLACK AND CRAP ABOUT QUITTING.
I UNDERSTAND THAT THE NUMBERS ARE ACTUALLY FALLING YEARLY. YAHOOO !

I HAVE BEEN A SMOKER FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS NOW STARTING IN MY MID TEENS. :oops2:
AND I HAVE ALSO ABUSED MY LUNGS IN OTHER WAYS AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN SMOKING LARGE AMOUNTS OF THE "OTHER " STUFF FOR JUST ABOUT AS LONG. I ALSO HAVE DONE ABOUT 10 YEARS TOTAL OF WELDING AN ASSORTMENT OF METALS IN MANY STRANGE AND SOMETIMES CONFINED PLACES.
PLUS 22 YEARS OF COOKING IN A SOMETIMES SMOKY ENVIRONMENT.

WELL IT IS FINALLY CATCHING UP TO ME. I JUST HAD A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT TODAY AND AFTER TALKING WITH HER, I DO NOT FEEL LIKE TORTURING MYSELF ANYMORE. I WAS GIVEN THE GRIM NEWS THAT I WILL LIKELY BE ONE OF THOSE OLD GUYS IN AN ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR WITH AN OXYGEN TANK STRAPPED ON BACK AND THE NOSTRIL HOSE.
THATS WITHIN 2 OR 3 YEARS, 5 AT BEST WITH MY CURRENT SMOKING HABITS.
BTW I AM TURNING 55 IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I RIDE MOUNTAIN BIKE DAILY ALL YEAR ROUND AND I AM PRETTY ACTIVE. OTHER THAN MY LUNGS I AM IN VERY GOOD SHAPE.
EVEN QUITTING RIGHT NOW, I MIGHT MAKE IT TO 65 BEFORE I NEED THAT OXYGEN BOTTLE. I WAS EXPECTING A BETTER AND LONGER RETIREMENT THAN THAT. NOW, I MAY NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO RETIREMENT, OXYGEN BOTTLE OR NOT.
THAT MY FRIENDS, SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME.
IF YOU SMOKE OR SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT SMOKES, GET TO WORK ON QUITTING.
NOW !!!
YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES WILL APPRECIATE IT LATER.

Zap.. good luck!

I was once a smoker, on and off smoking everything from cigarettes, cigars (and actually inhaling cigars) and the other stuff on and off for about 12 years. I felt it catching up to me on days when I'd run across a mall trying to get to a store before it closed only to find myself almost passing out half way. I had my last cigarette in Apr. 2007 and haven't touched them since.

The funny part is, I met a girl (now my wife) in June 2007 when I was off sick with the 90 day flu who happened to be a registered respiratory therapist. She won't let me go near a cigarette and I'm glad.

I wish you luck with your task of quiting.

MANY THANKS TIKER
THE QUITTING PART IS ALREADY DONE. NOW ITS ONLY A MATTER OF KEEPING MYSELF SCARED OF THE END RESULTS.
AND ITS WORKING. REGARDLESS, THANKS FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT.
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE A VERY FORTUNATE MAN TO FIND A MATE LIKE THAT.
I WISH I HAD FOUND ONE LIKE THAT. BUT MY FIRST AND SECOND WIFES WERE BOTH SMOKERS.

AS FOR THE "OTHER" STUFF, WELL I ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS SOMEONE WHO GRABS A BEER WHEN GETTING HOME FROM WORK
WELL SINCE I DON'T WANT TO ( OR CAN'T ) SMOKE IT ANYMORE, A COUPLE OF SMALL BUDS IN A CUP OF HOT COFFEE
DOES THE TRICK QUITE NICELY. IN FACT I FORGOT WHAT THE "BLUEBERRY" FLAVOR WAS LIKE. IT DOESN'T COME THROUGH WHEN BURNED.

I've been a smoker for years (both kinds as discussed above), I really should quit but I simply enjoy it too much.

GOOD LUCK ZAPP!

Me too. Good luck Zappdog. Believe me, I've tried countless times but after about 12/15 hours, I start climbing walls - with my fingers

I'd love to give up, but like Pawly, I enjoy them too much!

before i was a heavy smoker, i used to smoke a pack of cigarette a day. when i started being a dentist i quit, but quitting is so hard. the cravings is killing me, i started by minimizing 10 sticks a day, and then after 3 months 5 stick a day, and then 2 and then 1. and then i totally stopped smoking by a year. chewing gum is good to stop your cravings.

I think all of you which want to quit smoking can try Generic Zyban. Generic Zyban is prescribed to people who wish to give up the harmful habit of smoking. Initially, Bupropion was marketed as an anti-depressant. But, later, when smokers used it, they found it very helpful to kick the habit of smoking. The anti-smoking drug uses Bupropion as an active component to work at the neurological level to cut the dependence on nicotine in any form. However, it is not the same as nicotine replacement therapy.

Hey jeruson
I have a number of friends that quit lately. Two of them used Zyban. It helped one of them pretty much but the other had problems with it. Short tempered and severe mood swings. A common problem with Zyban. I tried it and the same problems developed and just about lost my job because of it. Needless to say I stopped taking it. I have been using the method Combatron mentioned with some degree of success. Sort of stalled out at an average of 6 a day but holding steady. It still isn't quitting but 6 a day is better than 25 a day.
Now I find they get pretty stale by the third or fourth day of a pack. A bit of apple slice in the pack helps.
Quitting is inevitable since the early stages of asthma showed up.

Best of luck Zapdog- Like you Zap, I started smoking in my early teens. I quit smoking 6 years ago when I moved in to my current apartment. I've have a total of 4 cigarettes since ( in the first year or two). Had a check up this past month- DR says that my lungs are in great shape.

So, keep your hope up, there's always a chance of recovery.

It needs a lot of self control to quit smoking. I found it really hard to quit smoking myself. But just remember, it's for your own good. That would give to strength to quit it.

Walter Pfarr is marketing representative for noted author and lecturer, Dr. Charles K. Bens of Florida. An almost three pack per day smoker for years and the not so proud father of numerous heart ailments, through natural therapies and a patterned program, he has curtailed this pernicious habit to less than a handful of cigarettes per day and is close to complete cessation.
