@RedMenace

'I'm earning some very easy credits with RS. I calculated 78 cpu seconds per credit on one box and 111 per on another. My 1 ghz clunker is even earning 1 per 137 seconds. There's much variability in wu sizes which affects stats because credits are awarded per wu not per time..

For comparison SIMAP runs around 190 and SHA-1 around 210 on my faster boxes. A 'typical' project's credit will run 280 to 300 seconds. SHA does 450 to 550 on my clunker'

Hey RED I started this tread not to be off topic on DP.
RS is a great project and you are doing great. I see you coming up in the stats.
We are doing great over there. We went up 7 rank in a week in TC now at 49 and 21 on RAC.
This project needed help. If it become POTM in Feb /08m Will have a leg up on it.
Lets keep on crunching :pacman:

I watched a few today. Some do go faster than others, but there appears to be a bug. I watched two wu cpu time reset to zero seconds when suspended. After running arond 30 minutes, they posted at around 3. Still good numbers, but not as good as I was thinking.

Hi JPLiz, thought I'd give it a try. Looks okay so far. Will have to upgrade wife's rig - single core is no good for multiple projects.

I'm gonna try & slip a quad past her (I'll be so lucky - women are just toooooo observant!)

@Sirius B
One off my rig went down this weekend. I should have it fix by tommorow and also adding a qaud to the mix. I'll post a pic off it in the crunching room later this week.

Went away for the weekend to a hockey tournament and brought my laptop, but I didn't pack the power cable. Lost 2 cores for 2 1/2 days :(

Posted: Wed Jan 16, 2008 1:52 am Post subject: BOINC Credit Discussion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over the last few days, there has been quite a number of discussions regarding the current BOINC credit model, as well as several proposals for new models to follow. While some of the discussion has taken place on the boinc_projects list, many of these discussions have occurred on IRC, multiple project/team/BOINC forums, or personal email. In the interest of time, clarity, and the ability to hear many views in a single arena, the staff of Riesel Sieve and I would like to extend an invitation to a BOINC Credit Community Discussion on Monday, January 21st. This discussion will be held via irc on irc.freenode.net, in the channel #boinc-credit.

In the interest of having the discussion at a time conducive to all, we will be hosting two discussions, at 2pm US Eastern Time and 8pm US Eastern Time. Please consider attending either or both. The logs from each will also be posted on the Riesel Sieve website shortly afterward, to allow those who could not attend the opportunity to review the transcript.

I think the only way that we can come to a true solution to the crediting situation is through a thorough discussion (or series of discussions) in a real-time format, not over email. Again, anyone from the BOINC community, including individual users, is invited to attend. Please consider redistributing through your own project or team channels to encourage attendance.

Hi JPLiz, while in London last weekend replenishing my stock I picked up a q6600 at a good price. Just waiting to gather the rest of the kit to build a nice quad system. Once built, will have it crunching S@H, E@H, WCG & R@H.

Unsure of what o/s to use - at the moment, debating between Vista Ultimate, XP Pro or Server 2008.

I did want an AMD Phenom but decided to wait until they iron out the bugs & increase the clock speed.

Now up to 14 rigs on all projects - hopefully will get more customers to agree on having boinc on their systems.

Regards

PJ

PS I'm still envious of your work area!!!

Thanks, already tried late last year. Had FC7 & Ubuntu 7.10 on 2 rigs. Spent too many years using MS - From DOS 3.3 to current. Really need to knuckle down, read & use trial & error to get to grips with Linux.

However, from what I did experience, I like!! 8)

Which Linux flavour are you using for your multi-core systems? I need one and a good excuse to do some learning.
I used to know Unix but only a moderate amount and that was many years ago. (I won't say how many. )

Thanks,
Bill

Howdy Boys and Girls

Thanks for joining the project boost
I've been running RS for a couple of reasons since WCG

Letting team standings slip is one
The other to see how my quads fair

I have my three quads running on RS and I'm averaging 9000 credits per day
one stock and two overclocked
Phenom 9500 stock@2200MHz
Intel Q6600 @2800MHz
Phenom 9500 @2772MHz

Top Computers RAC
OC Intel is 13th
OC Phenom is 14th
Stock Phenom is 25th

The truth about the Phenom TLB bug
There is **possibly of a chance** of tripping the bug when running full load using virtualization causing the computer to lock up
So if your running two OSes at once under full load there is a small chance it might lockup
I haven't found anybody yet that has had a Phenom lockup running single OS because of the TLB bug
Winblows will crash your computer more than any TLB bug will

Enjoy your quads guys

Cheers
Frank

Man when you join a project you join a project :) For now I only have my duel core on it full time but if RS become the POTM in FEB, I will put all my boxes on it and see how it goes. I should hit 2000 per day.

Hi Frank. how long have you had the Phenom running & how does it compare with the AMD X2's? Thanks for the explanation of the bug. As I only use 1 O/S on each system, on next trip to suppliers, will pick one up - what do you suggest, the 9500 or 9700 (if available)?

Regards

PJ

Just got back from London - urgent customer request to fulfill. While there, picked up an AMD 9500 (Thanks for the "bug" tip Frank). Now, over the next 6/8 weeks it will be a race between the Q6600 & 9500 as to which one gets completed 1st. Ideally, will love to have both up & running as soon as possible. However, at this time of year, funds are a bit tight with everyone. No new systems, just upgrading & servicing.

Need a magic wand!!!

So after a lot of sucsess getting my upgraded machine loaded with Ubuntu and BOINC, I trashed 12 Einstein WU's in a couple seconds. With some help from JP I was able to get things rolling just fine on a few Rosetta WU's. I thought I'd try a few RS units and instead of Sieve I got a swack of LLR units. YIKES. I sure hope there's more credit in those things. Looks like they're going to take a while.

Anyone had experience with the LLR WU's? I noticed my cooling fan sped up just a bit after the switch from Rosie to LLR.

Thats what I'm crunching now llr 5.20. It takes about 4 to 5 hours on my quad and give between 90 to 100 credits per wu. Or close to that. Maybe other crunchers will be able to tell you the exact numbers. I was never good in Math.:)

This was just on the RSS news feed from Rieselsieve

Quote:
For those of you wondering what is the problem with Riesel Sieve, here is a word from BOINC side administrator Bryan: Basically, the project creator has disappeared. People have been in contact with him, but we haven't heard any resumption date or even if things will resume. For the time being, I'm focusing my efforts on getting the non-BOINC side of the project up, as it is far easier and requires far less resources. We do not have access to any of the databases or we would have been able to restore things even without the project creator. Our wishes for RS to return as soon as possible.
