I'm cheering the Giants. I almost always cheer for NFC teams. The Cowgirls is the only exception

Got any interesting food ideas? The only contraints are it has to go good with hoy sauce and beer.

Chilli, definitely chilli.

Pawly's Kick Ass Chilli

1kg ground beef (I prefer regular grind but some like lean or extra lean)
1kg ground pork
1 large onion
1-3 Sections of garlic (all depends now garlicy you like it)
1-2 Large Cans of beans (Traditional is red kidney but I like to use a mix)
Carrots, Peppers, Celery
1 Large Can crushed, seeded tomatoes (you can use fresh but seeding and skinning can be a pain in the butt)
1 beer
Salt/Black Pepper/CUMIN!! <--the cumin is a must!
Chilli peppers, as hot as you can handle (Pawly's Dad grows them fresh)

1 Chop all veggies (minus the peppers and beans, I'll explain later) and start them off in a big pot with some spices.
2 When they start to soften, add the meat and brown.
3 Once browned, add the remainder of spices, beer, tomatoes and beans(add the beans to early and they will turn to mush) and lower the heat.
4 Let simmer so the flavours combine.
5 Add the chopped peppers late in the cooking or they will disintegrate and you will have all these little skins floating about.
6 Let the whole mess simmer for as long as you dare (Pawly starts cooking at noon so he can eat it for dinner). The whole point being for some of the liquid to evaporate and flavours to mingle. Remember, while it is cooking it will be more liquidy (is that a word?) than when it is cooled and served so you don't want to let it evaporate too much. If that happens ..... ADD MORE BEER!

Serve with shredded Cheddar and/or Mozzarella cheese on top. Sour Cream on the side and your choice of Nacho Chips or Crusty Bread.

NOTE - make lots as it is FAR better the next day!

Enjoy!

With the beer can I assume that's not minor hockey? Or do you just sit upstairs at the 4-plex and watch from the bar? I assume one must be a Cats game. Of course I'll be watching that one on the web and matching you beer for beer! :redskate:  Too bad you are going to lose!

You can add if if you like. The recipe I posted is a "BASIC Starter", additions and variations can be made. Salt, Pepper and Cumin are a must (the cumin gives it that distinctive Mexican flavour). You can even "cheat" by using an Old El Paso Spice Package available at most grocery stores.

:fire: For "heat" you can add chilli powder, paprika, tabasco, chilli pepper flakes, chilli oil etc etc. If you decide to use fresh chillis, remember that the seeds and the white membranes (ribs) are the hottest parts! :fire:

I just canned 9 jars of homemade hot sauce. It was purely by the seat of my pants, but here's the recipe from my limited memory:
- 40 habeneros or scotch bonnets
- 8 jalepenos
- 12 finger peppers
- a bunch of cayene powder
- 2 to 4 white spanish onions to taste (purple will turn it brown)
- equivalent of 8 to 12 medium tomatoes
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup EVOO
- 1/2 cup carrot juice
- 1 sweet green pepper
- 1 sweet orange/red/yellow pepper

Basically chop it roughly and throw it all in a large boiler. Boil the crap out of it, say 2 hours. Puree it as finely as you can in a food processor. Re-boil it an hour or so until desired thickness. You may need to wear rubber gloves.

Can for 45 minutes in std mason jars.

I eat the stuff with just about anything.

No it's PRO Hocket. I'm a habs fan. Yes There still some off us left. :oops2: They have 2 games this weekend in the afternoon. Plus I'm watching the Sens game also. Add the superbowl and it's a least a 24. It's a deal for matching the beer. Can you make it to Moncton???

Well I am a Habs fan too :D

I don't expect to be in Moncton again till the summertime. My son goes to the Hockey Ministries hockey camp each year. He's playing High School hockey, AA league, and I don't think there are any AA schools even in Moncton.

Somebody at work today put up a pic of the TO Maple Leafs' team picture in the lunchroom. It had them all wearing bags over their heads. Totally hillarious :D

Hey that's cool. We take all that stuff in stride. The problem with the Leafs is the ownership, has been for a long time. That and the fans are die hards. We support the buds no matter what. Through thick and thin. This means EVERY game is sold out standing room only. Not much motivation for the owners to make changes as long as there are butts in the seats. It's not easy being the single most profitable team in the NHL.

When they do (eventually) regain their glory days, WOOOOOO!, stand back! You will see Toronto EXPLODE!! Yonge street will be backed up from the lake all the way to VANCOUVER!! LMAO!!

Back to the SuperBowl!

Pawly I tried your Chilli. I had to make some adjustments because we were out of cumin. I used some chilli powder and corriander instead. I really love what the beer does. I never tried that before. You've opened a whole new world :D

Giants 23 - Patzers 17
