Admin's Note : These notes were compiled by John of Paddy's in Space. He is a tireless supporter of BOINC and was instrumental in the "re birth" of Canada as a real TEAM. Thank You John.

To post a message, you simply click "New Topic" or "Post Reply"
depending on which you want to do. You write your message in the box
and then click "Submit", that will post your message.

To make your messages more interesting, you can use what's called
"BB code". This is a simple code that allow's you do much more than just
plain text in your messages. BB code will allow you to change your text
colour and size. BB code will also allow you to post pictures and internet
address links in your message and much more.

This what BB code looks like;
[b.]Bold Text[/b.]
[i.]Italic Text[/i.]

When you are writing a message you have 9 handy auto BB code
tags above where you are typeing to make things simple. By
highlighting the text you have typed, you can apply any of the tags.
Also by highlighting your text you can change the text colour and size.
You can also add the handy "smilies" on the left hand side to make
you message more interesting. Or you can simply type the BB code
tags you want to use.

This is what the screen looks like when you are posting a message.

You need to use these symbols to create BB code; "[" and "]"

For these examples i will use these symbols "{" and "}", but you will replace them with these; [ ]

1. {b}bold text{/b} gives you bold text
2. {i}italic text{/i} gives you italic text
3. {u}underlined text{/u} gives you underlined text
4. {quote}This is what John said{/quote} Gives you
Quote:
This is what John said

5. {code}This is some BB code or html{/code} Gives you
Code:
This is some BB code or html

6. {list}1.My list of things to do
2.Write bb code
3.Explain carefully
4.what it does{/list}
Gives you........
    1.My list of things to do
    2.write bb code
    3.explain carefully
    4.what it does

7. list??=

8. To display an image in your message!
Find an image on the internet and copy&paste the URL like so with the "img" tags:
{img}http://biblical-studies.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/guinness.jpg{/img}

Displays the picture:

Try to keep images small in Kbites and in physical size when posting.
Remember people on dial up internet will have to download
all of the images on a page to view it!

9. To display a "clickable URL" in your message
There are 2 parts to it. The "URL" and the "Word description"
We can use GOOGLE as an example.

{url=http://www.google.com}Click here for the google website{/url}

Comes up as:

Click here for the google website

Remember you will be replacing these symbols "{" and "}", with these; [ ] in each of the 9 cases i just explained. That is BB code.

These are some examples of using the different color text.
I have put in a "dot" into the code, to make the code visible to you. (Dot=.)
You wont be using the dot in your BB code.

[color=.darkred]darkred[/color]darkred
[color=.red]red[/color]red
[color=.orange]orange[/color]orange
[color=.brown]brown[/color]brown
[color=.yellow]yellow[/color]yellow
[color=.green]green[/color]green
[color=.olive]olive[/color]olive
[color=.cyan]cyan[/color]cyan
[color=.blue]blue[/color]blue
[color=.darkblue]darkblue[/color]darkblue
[color=.indigo]indigo[/color]indigo
[color=.violet]violet[/color]violet
[color=.white]white[/color]white
The color Black just wont work on this message board
because of the backround!

These are some examples of using the different size text.
I have put in a "dot" into the code, to make the code visible to you. (Dot=.)

[size=.12]Normal text[/size]Normal text
[size=.18]Large text[/size]Large text

These are some examples of using the different "Emoticons"
or "Smilies" in your text.

You simply select where you want a Smiley then click the Smiley.
I have put in a "dot" into the code, to make the code visible to you. (Dot=.)
