:o Something I have had to learn the hard way is learn from people who know. I had to convince the wife twice!!!! that a ps3 was a good idea!!!!!!
I just made one the kids computer, with easy to use internet, and put all the new linux drivers in to make em run like a windows machine, and the other is in my office
with osx and windows installed(cuz it's cool) doing my guy stuff(for science I tell her). I even got the plasma to the ps3 to run the hi def blu ray stuff to tell her " the ps3
is cheaper than any blu-ray player on the market.

The hard thing is to convince her that not shutting off her laptop to BOINC is a good idea. If you get that one with your's tell me how.

Sorry Zappdog. I have an advantage in upgrading. For example, when the 1st quad is built, it becomes my workstation & current WS will become the wife's. Then the wife's current rig will be sold after a good spring clean - still got nearly 7 months warrantly on it. When 2nd quad built, she gets that & so on etc.

I also have a customer interested in my server - currently wringing hands with glee  If he buys it, I'm going to go with another quad for a better home server.

@Philzie, recently upgraded my neighbour's laptop (& put boinc on it - with permission of course) & I find that with 6/7 hours use per day is sufficient.

There are a lot of long-term dedicated crunchers on WCG so it'll be tough to move up the ranks!
