Terriffic, thanks for the stats, Zappdog. When my lawyer turned up this morning & showed me the results of her work last night, I could not believe that we were that far in advance with the rent. No wonder it took so long to get the quad up & running. It's taught me a very valuable lesson. Keep a tight reign on accounts.

No, I didn't set it up deliberately, I have been working on shelving for the alcoves in the main lounge & also building a better work bench (at the time though, what I was feeling is unmentionable). You are right on the main point, I just have to bite my tongue & hang in there, but it is so frustrating knowing that we have not done any wrong & end up in a situation like this.

Well, I'm sitting at 85 right now. Kostchtchie, my (Vista) quad has finally finished its reserve of RS. I wish I could get Daedelus (single core, XP) back up and running, but that seems unlikely.

On the plus side Bobcom (old sempron, XP) seems to be mysteriously running pretty regular right now, so that plus the addition of Valkyrie (dual core, Vista) should help.

As of today, Infernus Morte (single core, XP Pro) and Station (single core, '98) both are still MIA, with no report from their current keepers out in North Bay or Ottawa. My brother, who has inherited Infernus Morte has been attending a military training camp in Sault Ste. Marie, so it is very likely that he has left if off during this time. He should be returning this upcoming Saturday, and I have hope that he will reactivate the machine.

Tomorrow as I will be working a 13-hour shift at work, I intend to hijack the dual-core gateway that sits on our counter. Store will be added to WCG, and I'm going to let it run until somebody actually sells our last Windows XP machine (arrived February 2007).

I'm hoping to make 60 by total by the end of the month. Let's see how well that works out. :)

You lucky  I've had 3 provisional orders for quads, but will believe it when it happens. If they get built, I'm hoping to persuade the customers to have boinc installed.

The stats sites are up the creek again. BoincStats yesterday & now allprojectstats dropping me a 100,000 credits!

HEY SIRIUS B
NO I AIN'T REALLY HOLDIN OUT ON YA ALL.
I JUST TOOK THE 1.80 INTEL OFF SETI AND OUT IT ON THE POTM A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO.
SO NOW I'M RUNNIN ALL MY BIG GUNS ( SNICKER SNICKER LOL ) ON THE POTM.
2.0 G INTEL
1.8 G INTEL
1.667 G AMD
I SEEM TO BE CLIMBING THE RAC LIST PRETTY QUICK CONSIDERIN HOW OLD THIS JUNK IS.
IT SURPRISED ME. THE BEST RAC NUMBERS I'VE HAD YET.
I PUT THE OLD 500 AMD ONTO SETI.
I WAS LOOKIN AT THOSE 4 - PENTIUM II - 350'S I GOT SITTIN THERE DOIN NOTHIN. BUT I FIGURE THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO CRANK OUT A WU A MONTH SO IT AIN'T REALLY WORTH IT. I WOULD NEED A NET HUB OR SOMETHING SIMILAR ANYWAY.

HOWDY ALL
WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE EQUIPMENT I'M RUNNING YOU WILL APPRECIATE THIS QUESTION THAT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE A NEWBIE.
BESIDES THE NUMBER CRUNCHING, ARE QUADS THAT MUCH FASTER IN GENERAL USE ? DO THEY BOOT UP QUICKER ?
PERHAPS SOMEONE KNOWS A GOOD LINK TO EXPLAIN THE BENEFITS OF QUADS OVER SINGLE CPU'S.
I HAVE NEVER EXPLORED DUALS OR QUADS, ALWAYS CONSIDERING THEY WERE BEYOND MY REACH.
I GUESS I'M ALSO GETTING THE 'SERIOUS CRUNCHERS' BUG BUT I AIN'T GOING TO UPGRADE IF THE ONLY REAL BENEFIT IS IN BOINC. PERSONALLY I CAN'T SEE EVER NEEDING MUCH MORE COMPUTER POWER THAN I PRESENTLY USE

Hi Zappdog. Compared to a single core X2's/X4's are a lot faster. After using my X2's & then using Andrea's X1, I find it fairly slow when using 2 or more programs at the same time, even though it has 2gb ram. However, If what you've got is good enough for the purposes you use it for, then at the moment, I don't think it's worth upgrading.

However, several months after Intel's Quad Core's were released, I purchased a X2 cpu & mobo for only £95 ($190). I did not need anything else as the ram that board required was DDR400 of which I had plenty in stock.

Should you do consider upgrading, it is more than possible that you could pick up a quad/mobo & DDR2 ram at a very reasonable price. From what you've already got running, it should be quite easy to upgrade with minimal cost.

From what we've seen so far with your posts, we know you're tempted - Go on, upgrade

HEY SIRIUS B
JUST WHAT I NEED, SOMEONE PRODDING ME ON. I CAUGHT YOUR COMMENT ON YOUR QUAD. IT SOUNDS LIKE A VERY NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT. I WILL UPGRADE EVENTUALLY BUT I'M IN NO REAL HURRY.
ALL MY EQUIPMENT COMES TO ME USUALLY FREE SO I HAVE VERY LITTLE INVESTED IN MY OLD FARM. WHEN I DO UPGRADE I WILL LIKELY GO THE SAME ROUTE AS I DID WITH THE 1.667 AMD. I BOUGHT THE MB ONE MONTH THEN THE CPU THE NEXT AND ON AND ON TILL I HAD ALL I NEEDED FOR A DECENT MACHINE (AT THAT TIME) THE ONLY COMPRIMISE I MADE ON IT WAS STAYING WITH THE SDRAM CAUSE I HAD QUITE A BIT ALREADY. TOTAL COST WAS UNDER 300 WHEN AN EQUIVILENT MACHINE COMPLETE WAS 800 AND UP.
BY THE TIME I GET TO DOING IT, ALL THE MEMORY ETC WILL BE NEW TYPES ANYWAY SO I'LL HAVE TO START FROM SCRATCH. I'M THINKING AN ULTIMATE GAMERS MACHINE. BESIDES BOINC, DRIVING GAMES ARE THE HARDEST I WORK MY MACHINES. OTHER THAN THAT I USE IT MOSTLY FOR EMAILS AND TV GUIDE AND SURFING MY FAVORITE FORUMS.

HEY MANY THANKS FOR THE INFO SIRIUS B
NOW I KNOW AN UPGRADE IS IN THE FUTURE AND NOW I KNOW THE DIRECTION FOR ONE PART OF IT.

You're welcome Zappdog. How do you think I built the quad? Purchased everything I needed a bit at a time & left the mobo, cpu & ram till last. By the time I've finished with it, it will have cost me £1093 ($2100).

However, that will be for the following: -

AMD 9500 Phenom quad cpu
Asus M2N32 Workstation Professional Mobo
4x 2gb DDR800 (PC6400)
Windows XP Pro X64 Edition
10x 500gb Hard Drives
2x SATA2 Backplanes
2x 8cm & 1x 12cm Case Fans
Akasa EvoBlue cpu cooler
Geoforce 7600 gpu

Over the next couple of months will be doing the same for the Intel Q6600 cpu I've already got.

Don't forget though, that I have the advantage of being a systems builder.

NICE SYSTEM. IT SOUNDS LIKE ENOUGH JUICE TO HEAT AN APARTMENT BUILDING. 5 TB OF HD IS PRETTY NICE.
YA, UNFORTUNETLY I DON'T HAVE A NICE STOCK OF PARTS TO SELECT FROM. WHEN ITS TIME FOR ME, I WILL GO THROUGH ALL THE LOCAL COMP STORE ADS AND SELECT FROM THAT TO GET THE BEST PRICE.

DAMN IT MUST BE NICE, EH ?

I build systems too but thats a beast !

I saw a intel quad 6600, motherboard and ram on ebay for $400 the other day, am very tempted to replace my old amd sempron board !!!!

Hey Timmygadget, that's a cracking good deal. If you can afford to, get it. My Q6600 cpu cost me £135 ($270). Be aware though of newer mobo's. They have 6 ram slots & they are split between DDR2/DDR3 - you cannot populate all 6. Not sure if they are 4 & 2 or 2 & 4, without checking, I think they may be 4 & 2 as DDR2 is more popular at the moment with DDR3 being very expensive.

@Zappdog. Don't forget that I can purchase kit/software at trade prices. However, it does take me time to accumalte spare cash to enable me to splash out so to speak. I do have to take care of Andrea & her needs. The main reason why I am fairly busy is because I can undercut the likes of PC World from £150 up to £300 making a small amount of profit. I mainly make my profits from the Service Contracts which I think is reasonable compared to PC World's.

Here's an example: - If you look under my computers on RS, you'll see a laptop called Net Mobile1. Since the 8th March, it has not crunched & I found the reason why earlier this evening. She was illegally using someone else's wireless router for over 2 months, but she can no longer do so. On checking it for her, found that the router owner finally wised up & secured it. She wanted to to able to connect through her brother's desktop, so I will be setting up a router with a 3m RJ45 cable. Total charge: £45 which I will give to Andrea (slowly building it up so that I can have an excuse to build the Q6600 system - you know how women treat us, boys with toys)
