I took part as well, although since I normally keep most of my lights off anyway it wasn't too big a deal. I think my contribution was a whole 3 lights off and a computer or two....but I guess every bit helps...

Great. It's not the number off lights but the act off doing it that count. Even me only one light off but i cant tell you that my girlfrieand didn't like to go pee in the dark. :)

This was send to me by WWF Canada.

Thank you for leading the world in Earth Hour!
Earth Hour was a huge success, with early reports indicating that at least 50 million people participated in this global call to action on climate change! This makes it the largest voluntary power-down event in history. And it was Canada that led the way, with over 150 cities and towns turning off their lights. Thank you Canada!

In Toronto, Canada’s flagship Earth Hour city, energy consumption dropped by 8.7 per cent and almost 10,000 people gathered at City Hall to watch Nelly Furtado, The Philosopher Kings and Fefe Dobson play a free concert in the dark. In all of Ontario, 900 MW of energy was saved, the equivalent of taking 3,200 cars off the road for one hour.

There were celebrations all across the country and results are still pouring in. In British Columbia, energy consumption was reduced by 125 MW. The energy saved in Ontario and British Columbia alone is equivalent to turning off 20.5 million lights.

Thanks to everyone here in Canada and around the world that participated in the first ever, worldwide Earth Hour! Your efforts and determination have made this an event to remember and you have sent a very strong message to our government, and governments around the world, that we need to take action on climate change now.

Great job guys. Thankz for helping.

We moved on Good Friday and never hooked up the Internet (shhh! don't tell) or TV... because we're moving again this weekend to a bigger apartment, so Earth Hour was pretty easy. My parents fell asleep, I unplugged pretty much everything, turned the electric heat down, and all of the lights off. My friends call me David Suzuki. If anyone lives in Halifax, I'm supposed to be the Metro newspaper on Earth Day next week, because I started a petition to ban plastic bags in Atlantic Canada.

Most of the people I know think I'm a little odd as I never have any lights on. It's not neccessarily to save energy - it's just that I'm far too lazy to turn them on (and I see fairly well in the dark anyway)! By the way, for those of you who haven't tried them, the cloth bags from the grocery stores are much nicer to carry (and stronger!) than the plastic ones so I highly recommend them. Now if only I could remember to bring them with me every time I go to the store...must be time for a memory upgrade again...

We try to leave a bunch in each car, but we still forget to take them into the store. We must have about 2 dozen of them. We even use them for recycling. You're right, they are much easier to use than the plastic ones.

Remembering to bring them from the car is also another stumbling block with me. Hopefully my brain will kick into gear sometime soon and I'll remember all the steps I need to get them into the store with me more often...
