Hi Guys.

For those running cosmology, check your tasks. The project url changed yesterday & it has caused problems with the scheduler. You must detach & re-attach or you will continue to get errors when reporting wu's.

March 20, 2008 Canceling Old Workunits
It seems that the WUs in the queue right now will not run correctly, so we are going to cancel all of the current WUs and give credit to the WUs which have already been completed. Then, we will enable the new WU generator. Make sure to update your BOINC client so that you don't accidentally crunch WUs that have been canceled.

It's also made numerous requests but no work downloaded. On going to their forum, you can read but not post. Last mesage on boards was 9 hours ago.

As for my server, I have not touched it in weeks, everything has been running smoothly until now. I haven't done anything with boinc or bam.

Yeah, Cosmology has been having quite a few problems lately. I've got it attached to a few rigs in case it comes back, but I'm not holding my breath for a quick resolution anymore...

It looks like Cosmology has some serious problems....

Yet according to the boards, other platforms are not getting work either! Is this project about to die?

I think it may have something to do with their wu generator as I still occassionally get some wus through on both my Windows and Linux boxes. When the site has very little work you'll get these messages as it cycles between creating Linux and Windows wus.

Edit: I just checked out their site and they have over 80,000 wus ready to send so there's obviously something still broken there...

Update...

....Early next month, we plan on performing some major maintainence on our server hardware which will require that we shut down the server for a number of hours. We'll give a more specific date around that time, but we thought you all would appreciate the heads up.

May 9, 2008 Break for a while
Still having problems with the validator. After I grab some shut-eye, I'll work on it some more (it's only permission problems).

After much shenanigans, logging in is now working again, so the message board is up. Still working on the rest.

The website is mostly up right now, but I'm still ironing out some bugs having to do with logging in. The project daemons seems to be up and running but I haven't verified that they are working properly yet. More updates to come.

May 9, 2008 Another update
The project daemons seems to be mostly working at this point. There are still some problems with scheduling, though, and there are *far* too many WUs in the queue due to the population script not being able to get queries out in time, so we're going to wait a while to see if it settles. However, it looks like the database is doing *much* better and there are no hanging queries. I'll keep you posted on changes.

To all team members that crunch Cosmology on a regular basis, I'll like to make a request.

I've started a thread in the technical support titled "Congrats" & so far only 2 replies. As Scott & the project team have had a difficult couple of months, I thought that it would be nice to congratulate them.

Please consider visiting & posting.

Thanks Guys, appreciate it. With all the stick that project admins get, I've noticed that the ones giving the stick rarely give praise & I think that Scott & others deserved some plaudits.

Also, note that they are having problems again. Server stating no work but available for other platforms (as at very early this morning).
