HEY TIMMYGADGET
GREAT PICS. THATS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. THERES A LOT OF OLD HISTORY IN YOUR AREA.
THAT TOWN HALL CAUGHT MY INTEREST. ENOUGH THAT I TOOK A LOOK IN THE ATHY WEBSITE.

THINK ABOUT THIS. I LIVE IN CALGARY. POPULATION JUST OVER A MILLION. WHEN YOUR TOWN HALL WAS BUILT, THERE WAS NOTHING HERE. FORT CALGARY WASN'T BUILT FOR ANOTHER 30 OR 40 YEARS AFTER YOUR TOWN HALL WAS BUILT.
ATHY HISTORY GOES A LONG WAY BACK.
THANKS FOR THE GLIMPSE

I WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO A SERIOUS SNOWFALL.
ITS STILL COMING DOWN. ITS AT ABOUT 12 " IN A COUPLE OF HOURS.
ITS THICK ENOUGH THAT THE MOUNTAIN BIKE STAYS IN THE GARAGE TODAY.
YESTERDAY WAS OVER 10 C. AND PREDICTED WEEKEND OF 19 AND 20 C
"WAIT 10 MINUTES IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE WEATHER"

HEY BB , ARE YA SNOWED IN ? NASTY EH ?

I WAS JUST GOING TO SAVE THE PIC WHEN IT REFRESHED ITSELF.
IT WAS AIMING AT AN INTERSECTION BUT A BLOB OF SNOW MUST HAVE FALLEN ONTO
THE CAM AND RE-AIMED IT TO THIS.

We only see snow about 1 or 2 days a year in Ireland because the climate is so maritime from the Atlantic Ocean and when it does land it melts almost straight away

I was at my daughters school today out in the countryside and I saw my first swifts and swallows of the summer, a week earlier than they usually appear, is this global warming or just the sign of a good season to come ?

Dammit Timmy, my apologies for not noticing this thread when you 1st posted.

My late mother's family is from Glendalough & we still have relatives living in their farm at Blackwater.

We were over there in 98 taking mum's ashes home. Didn't want to come back here.

Thanks for the photos.

Thanks Timmy. already viewed all 3. I'm still waiting for my brother to give me a copy of the video we took when we were there in 98. Man, that was scary. I'm a lorry driver of long standing, but when Tom was driving back over the mountains with me hanging out the passenger window with the camcorder, I kept silently praying to St Patrick that he kept those wheels on the road.

We actually stayed at Burr so that we were central to visit all our relatives, & also visit the places that Dad & I wanted to visit. Will be taking Andrea over there next year for a long holiday.

That's a date. However, don't take offence with Andrea. She's really had it rough over the past 10 years. She is a convulsive Epileptic & had memory problems. The medication is keeping it under control, but sometimes she goes into a world of her own & forgets things around her. Other than that, she really is a lovely girl, so much so that every time I get invited to other family members here for get togethers, I get a rollicking if I don't bring her with me. She really has an infectious laugh.

When we took dad's ashes home, Andrea didn't want to come back. She really loves Ireland & looking forward to spending some time there on holiday.
Also, when I talked to her about my retirement plans, she said she is more than willing to live in Ireland.

Andrea at Tagoat - A short distance from Rosslare Harbour.

Just to the right & a very short distance away from that signpost, is a very nice pub. We landed at Rosslare just past 7am on Easter Saturday(2006). After several hours rest, the rest of the family went To Tipperary but Andrea had a bad attack & I didn't want her to travel.

We both went to the pub for a drink of the "Black Stuff" & found that they did meals as well. What surprised Andrea was the cost - 2 big meals, 1 coffee & 2 pints came to just over 20 euros.
She couldn't believe how laid back the Irish were.

My son and my nephew went out fishing the other day and caught a pike (nasty little beggars) but I was winding them up by saying they bought it on the fish stall on the local market. Fishing is very good here in Ireland, sparkling clean rivers and canals with lots of pubs on them, we get loads of English over here fishing all the time because the rivers in England are a bit more polluted, or maybe they just like our Guinness...

Well I'll be blowed!!! Thank goodness my mum is no longer alive as she would have really clouted me for not recognising the place of her parents birth...... :oops2:

Had made all the arrangements to take her home a for a good holiday in 1998, but unfortunately, she passed away on 6th July 1997. That will always be the one major regret in my life as I wanted to do this for her as when the family arrived in the UK on the 16th August 1961, mum never got the opportunity to return home for a holiday.
