Heh heh heh, now I'm definitely going to stay in 2nd

I know. I turn some other projects on last night. It's going to slow me down a bit. :)

I've worked it out & there's no way I can catch Rintaran by the end of the month. However, it is going to be close between us for 3rd & 4th. Good luck & may the best cruncher be 3rd.

No prob has long we hit 5 mills by the end off the month all will be good. I thing we ill need some help for that. Some off he big crunchers will nerd to join the party or we will miss it. Good thing LUNJA is in with us.

I might not fall into that "big cruncher" category, but im trying.
Another couple of days and ill pass Grizz, mind you id already passed him if i hadnt been without power for the last 32h due to monday's freakish thunder storm (Heres some off topic for you Kalu= I Hate Summer)... Anyways, that'll be 20k in about 10 days on QMC and 5k on POEM, not half bad.

You and me both, truth be told, anything over 18 or 20 and I'm dying...true Canadian I guess. Christmas is my favorite holiday and snowmobiling, my favorite motorized sport. I don't particularly like -30C but I'd take it in a heartbeat over +30C, if I had my druthers. :-D

I've slowed my systems down a notch. Way too hot for me. On cool nights I'll turn them up.

I'm away on vacation starting the 24th, so no units for the last week. Also my work laptop may be in for a re-image that week too. I'll get them to clean out the innards while they are at it. Prolly full of cat hair again.

I had to put a fan in my room to cool everything down. Cat hair I know all about. I have an open box here that have enough hair to build a new cat :)

I've got this little thing called Hyperhydrosis so anything abve 10c is annoying as heck. Gimme -30c and 6months of winter anytime. :)

No offence taken. Simple fact.
And yes, this is a great place/team to be.

:? Wow, that sucks. I can sympathize, although I don't have the condition I do sweat profusely when it gets hot and I have always hated sweating. I worked in construction for many years doing mostly hardwood flooring and had my fill I can tell you. No matter how cold it is you can always put more clothes on but with the heat there's not a lot you can do beyond getting naked. It's ok for the well-to-do, as they work in air conditioned offices, live in air conditioned houses and drive likewise equipped cars. Needless to say I've never been one of those people. Every house has a furnace though and every car, a heater. :-D

446K done so far. Estimated 55K short of 5 mill by end of month. Will keep rigs running until we hit target.

That was my target as well, however, I've had to shut my whole net down earlier this morning due to weird power readings on ALL rigs. Stripped all down & rebuilt. Cannot find any problems with components, so it has to be corrupt software/drivers. Gonna surf the net to try & find a more accurate program than Speedfan/PC Wizard as these readings are literally doing my head in.

Still hoping to hit 200k  Why oh Why did I give up the road

POTM is a bust for me this month.

Think the integrated graphics on the Celeron is on its way out, fortunately, the board is only several months old so can be RMA'd.
Desktop PSU could be playing up, +12v contstantly reading 5.59v
Server OK (thank Gawd)
Andrea's 64 3700 OK
Quad - still can't run 4 long wu's from ANY project - John Galt over at Seti agrees with me in that it's cooling system is insufficient, so will go for water cooling. Either that or I've too much kit in the case, which is what I can't understand. Main drive bay is empty at the moment as I am using 2 backplanes with only 4 out of 6 bays occupied. 1 Geoforce 8500 GPU & 2x 2gb ram, 2x 120mm - 2x 80mm & 1x 90mm fan on cpu cooler, which I don't think is excessive.

If Seti beta wins next months POTM, I'll pass on it & run Seti & Rosetta on farm (if it's still alive by then).

Hopefully, 2 customers who have aready ordered 2 quads & paid for the parts so far (both just waiting for the funds available to get cpus) will be ready by the end of the month/early July (I could do with the boost).

Edit.......The B Team - " I hate it when a plan goes pear-shaped"

One thing I dont understand about the heat problem on your quad. Mine will shut down if it become to hot not freeze. Yours should do the same?
Have you try replacing the OS. Could be a bad file or something like that. I'm running 3 QMC an 1 YOYO right now and it's doing great. I cant check the tmp on it because it's running on Linux an I dont have the software to check it out. I also have a fan in the window brigning air from outside to cool the room tmp down. It helps.

You hit the nail on the head. That's what I can't figure out. When the problem 1st cropped up last Wednesday, it had locked up forcing a reboot. Other than that, I cannot find any fault with any component. I try to use the same kit in each rig (with the exception of the cpu's) so that any problems develop, they can be interchanged with the other systems to track down faults. I've done this with all three rigs & cannot fault the psu's or cpu coolers.

The quad was completed on 12th March & that's when I started crunching QMC to test it out. No problems & run the POTM for April/May at fult tilt, again with no problems. Suddenly I cannot run long wu's? It runs seti/rosetta & magnetism on all 4 cores & temps are normal.

I've even used your trick with a large 12" floor fan directed at all the rigs & no difference on the quad. I'm just wondering if an unknown bug has come to light with the 9500 Phenom...or it may be incapable of running 24/7 for any lengthy period.

No need, you will still be in 3rd (TC). I estimate that I'll be approx 15k behind you. I think the top 4 will end up looking like this: -

1st Lunja
2nd Rintaran
3rd JPLiz
4th Sirius B

In the top 5 so can't really moan. Since experiencing nothing but problems with Intel in the early 90's, I've mainly used AMD. However, the next quad built for the farm will definitely be Intel.

Will be leaving external rigs on QMC with my own internal net running seti/rosetta. After logging off this session. I'm going to totally strip down quad again. Very carefully clean it. PSU is no problem as I've exchanged it with the server - Running totally normal in server for past 24hrs. Same problem with server's psu in workstation.

It has to be airflow/cooling problem - Will spent time on quad to try & get it right, then leave it running QMC until we hit 5 mill.

I know I can't compete with Lunja, User312 etc, but I have quite a few customers who are interested in boinc & I use it as a teaser in selling rigs. When problems like this crop up, they don't do me any favours.

Not much to crunch in July anyway. I may stay on QMC also until we make it.

Finished rebuliding & cleaning. Running other projects with 4 cores gave the following: -
CPU 45c
Mainboard 33c
Power 54c

That is a lot better than what it was.

Suspended all projects & ran QMC on all 4 cores gave this: -

CPU 54c
Mainboard 37c
Power 72c

This is also better than what it was, still concerned with power temp, but rig has been running steady for 30 min now with no increase. Will leave it running QMC for the rest of the evening & check temps at midnight.

Tidied up all cables as much as possible & tied then down where possible. Other than what I've aready done, can't think of anything else. Mind you, with the quad not running, it just shows how much a difference they make to crunching. Past couple of days, my tc has nosedived faster than a dive bomber!

Hope it runs ok for you but from what I read in some forum, the 9500 has a overheating problem. Some gamers as switch to water cooling for it because off that. I'n not a IT guy but I think I will say clear from them for now.

I think it's a combination of QMC, Summer & 9500 overheating. Aborted QMC wu's not already started & crunching the remaining 2 which were over halfway. Other 2 cores are running Magnetism & temps ok.

Was considering upgrading Andrea's to a 9900 when released, but I think I'll go Intel until AMD get their problems sorted out. Have already bulit several quads for customers but fortunately they were Q6600's. Unless specifically requested, I'm going to shy away from AMD quads, it's beginning to look like they may cause more probems than their worth.

Just checked again & I got it wrong earlier, my tc has nosedived by over 5k  That's 2 rigs less on QMC, I don't think I'll be able to maintain 10th place at this rate  Even my 1st mill date has gone out to July 9th

Celeron integrated graphics died but fortunately I had a spare AGP card, so she's back up & running. Net-3, a dual core Pentium 3ghz had overheating problems with QMC, so set to NNT & running Poem.

June always used to be a good month for me, but NOT this year

What an idiot  Found solution & so simple....

All 4 cores running sweet & normal. Just entered local prefs & reduced the % from 100 to 80. :oops2:
