I saw a lot of us had animal-related screen-name and I thought it would be interesting to know why you chose to do so.

I see JPLiz has a pig, ZAPPDOG loves puppies, Buffalo Bill loves Buffalos, Werechild loves werewolves, and, of course, there's GRIZZ who loves Grizzlies, I guess, eventhough I wouldn't call grizzlies 'cute'.

As for me, Le Panda Roux, it is French for The Red Panda (as all my project's profiles say). I chose it the day I discovered this specie because I'm fairly a redhead myself. The French translation for redhead is 'Roux', that's how I found this animal. It's my online nickname since then.

Strangely, the red panda is an animal pretty unknown. Let's change that!

According to Wikipedia:

Red Panda, Firefox, Fire Cat, Fat Fox, Lesser Panda, or Ailurus fulgens ("shining cat"), is a mostly herbivorous mammal, specialized as a bamboo feeder. It is slightly larger than a domestic cat (40 - 60 cm long, 3 - 6 kg weight). The Red Panda is endemic to the Himalayas in Bhutan, southern China,Pakistan, India, Laos, Nepal, and Burma. Red Panda is the state animal in the Indian state of Sikkim. There is an estimated population of fewer than 2,500 mature individuals. Their population continues to decline due to habitat fragmentation.

For more informations, visit the Wikipedia article for the red panda.

But enough chit-chat about it, they say a picture's worth a thousand words, so let's see some red pandas!

A little red panda cub, just learning to walk and looking so relax, arguably the cutest thing EVER!

Here's a little slideshow I made two years ago. More than 66K views on Youtube, pretty impressive as I made without any idea it would be fairly popular.

Aw, yeah those red pandas sure are cute..

To be honest I'd never heard of them until I was in Auckland, New Zealand about four years ago and saw a bunch of them in the Auckland Zoo.
My first thought upon seeing them was "wow thats strange, it's some kind of red raccoon"

That is impressive for a simple slide show!

I have to admit, those Red Pandas are kinda cute! Much faster than one would expect.

I have Grizz for a screen name because it's my nickname I've had for over 20 years. I got the nickname for having long hair and beard, it's short for Grizzly Adams which was a character in a movie years ago. I still have the long hair and beard, just ask Pawly. Many people still call me Grizz, I rarely hear my real name anymore.

Hmm I got confused. Who has a wolf, I can't find this person right now.

Sorry about that, Captain Canada ;) Good joke about the red fiat panda

PS: I added JPLiz's pig and Buffalo Bill's buffalo to the list.

Definitely cute! The problem with cute little dogs is they always seem to become the biggest trouble makers - I should know I've had many! Good luck with your new addition!

:-D My name comes from reading far too many Anne McCaffrey books -- for those of you who are familiar -- you will understand -- and I've been using this name for almost 15 years now -- ever since I came online. :P :P :P

TO GET BACK TO THE FIRST POST ;
ZAPPDOG COMES FROM AN OLD NICKNAME OF ZAP WHICH ENDED UP BEING THE NAME OF AN ELECTRONICS BUSINESS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. WHEN I FIRST GOT ONLINE I WAS ASKED FOR A NAME FOR EMAILS BY THE TECH. KIND OF ON-THE-SPOT WITH NO IDEAS. AFTER TRYING A COUPLE OF VARIATIONS OF ZAP I LOOKED AT MY DOG MERLIN (DOG WAS A COMMON NICKNAME FOR HIM) AND PUT THE TWO TOGETHER. AFTER ANOTHER FAIL ON ZAPDOG, I ADDED THE SECOND "P" AND ZAPPDOG WAS BORN.

My pet is a dog, and also I have some puppies and some kittens. The puppies are the kids of my two dogs, and they are really cute. My pets are almost two years with me and my pets are my only friends when I am at home.

Red Panda Cubs
Even when they're fully grown, red pandas are completely adorable -- so it's no surprise that these newborns, Tai and Pip, who were born at the Edmonton Valley Zoo in Canada in 2008, are almost unbearably cute. In the wild, the pandas live in the Himalayan mountains and eat berries, bamboo, leaves, and flowers -- so they're in danger primarily from deforestation. And unlike other animals that blend in with their surroundings as the seasons change, the red panda's coat becomes an even deeper shade as temperatures drop, making them more visible in the winter.

JUST FOR YOU LePandaRoux
