ahah nice stories!

In Paris, I heard lot of my friends saying people would ask them what language they were speaking, even if we (in Québec) speak canadian-French which should be understandable for every other French people when we put in the effort. But parisian people have the reputation to be kind of rude. I won't generalize though, I know everything's about meeting the right people at the right time.

I plan to travel in 2-3 years, maybe, and since I'll be studying, I might do one semester in another province (or maybe even in the USA). My major is "Teaching French as a second language", so it fits with traveling hopes.

I'm willing to learn some Spanish by then, so if I go to Europe speaking French, English and a little Spanish, everything should be fine.

I know how it is to speak with someone when you're stuck and don't know exactly what to say. When I first leaved Québec going to Calgary by bus, I was all by myself and my English was a lot worst than now (and it's not perfect yet, I know :p). I'll always remember how I felt when the lady first ask me 'How I wanted my eggs'... and I just told: "Hmm, normal..."!!!

The problem is... If someone ask me this question (about eggs)...I don't know how to answer ^^

I met several Quebecois while travelling and they all said the same thing. I did talk to several people from France about the issue and apparently the issue with Quebec French is that it branced off so long ago and then had so much English influence that the pronunciation has changed too much to be understandable. I guess it's a little like listening to a Newfie! (yeah, I've got a Newfie relation...when he gets going I can't understand a thing he says!).

Yeah, for the most part Parisiennes were a little on the rude side, but there were some genuinely friendly people there. The funniest part was Paris Disneyland (and, yes, I went!). I think I discovered the reason why the park had so many issues. I've been to both Disneyland and Disney World several times and its like going to an alternate world where everyone is on happy pills and the staff bend over backwards to make sure you're happy as well. Paris Disneyland is pretty much the polar opposite. There's lots of happy looking rides, but just try getting a smile out of anyone in the place - I remember trying to get a map of the attractions from an information Kiosk. I had to wait 5 minutes while two of the staff talked about what they were going to do on the weekend (I was trying to get their attention too...). When I finally got thier attention one of them simply flicked a map in my direction. Unfortuantely I missed the horrendous pass and it ended up on the ground to which both staff started laughing. Definitely NOT Disney service as I've come to know it. Getting on rides was just as bad - staff was too busy joking around and talking with each other to even acknowledge your presence. Combine that with pushy patrons and staff letting their friends cut to the front of the lines continually it ended up being a bit of a surreal experience.

No kidding! I worked for the directory assistance (which is 4-1-1) and they call it Aliant in the Eastern provinces. After 5 PM, the Québec city phone central takes it over and we answer all the Aliant customers... Man did I have problems understanding people sometimes! Not to mention PEI people are so smooth they could use 2 minutes for a call which should take about 20 seconds! ...

Would sure be awesome to visit and to speak with the locals face to face drinking a good lager.

Tell me about it - my Mom's family is from there. There's no such thing as a quick conversation on Island time!
