For April we have a couple of weaker projects and 2 requests:

I'm a little torn as there are several projects listed that I'm currently crunching. PEOM, of course is one of my bigger ones, but I'm looking to increase both my AQUA (now with checkpointing!) and Magnetism credits. Magnetism generally has sporadic work and low credits. AQUA on the other hand has large work units with decent credit. Milkyway has good credits (and ATI GPU support!), but I've got enough credits there for now and kind of got sick of the constant "credit issues", although that has more to do with the user base than the admins although they have kept credits extremely high for a long period of time (because of the users) which makes things worse in the long run if they are really going to "correct" the "issue". Of course I can't blame them as every time they tried to "correct" their credits they got blasted by their user base and everyone threatens to move to another project, but that's life - lots of other projects do it too...but I digress..

I think I'll hold out on the voting for now and see if I can sway things later...

I not going to vote but it will be nice to do milkyway to show the GPU crunch to everyone ! :-D
And I just wonder if you have any guidelines for the choosing a project ? It seems that the AQUA's result will be for profit made only  And the result are not really open...

Just my 2cents :-D

Aqua. Since my request for Magnetism, the project is completing the current run of wu's via resends. Nothing more will be available until Konstantin finishes his paper & no date is currently forthcoming.

There's a request page for members to request projects (http://teamcanada.freeforums.org/potm-requests-t389.html). Typically Grizz tries to rotate through the projects and leans towards projects that the team could use a little help on.

Edit: If you look at the last entry in the link above you'll see SiriusB requesting both Aqua and Magnetism!

If that's the case I'll vote for Aqua too and keep POEM as a backup...

I voted Milkyway, we're not that high in the rankings there and almost every crunchers love to crunch this project.

If Aqua wins (early leader), I'll crunch that too with pleasure.

I voted for MilkyWay@Home just because I've done it before (so that keeps my stats sig from getting too filled up) and I like the credits that I've gotten from it so far...
I havent really gotten behind March's POTM because of a slow start, and also this problem I have which I've detailed in the March POTM post. :-( For April I'll make sure I start on April 1st though.

My second choice was AQUA@Home because it's based in Burnaby, BC, which is around 50km from me :-)

Due to the problems I'm having with seti, just 4 ap's left, I've been crunching Milkyway (Internal only - aiming for 100k) Just tried on of the new aqua wu's - looking good. Claimed 299.01, granted 627.93.

However, I'll crunch whatever wins (with all rigs  ).

POEM's the only one of those i've crunched to date during previous POEM-a-thons.
That being said, i'll hang on to my vote for a bit and use it as a tie-breaker (or tie-maker  ) if need be.

Neutral to any of them, but I voted POEM. Nice credits. Never tried Aqua, but I'm game. We should support a Canadian project eh!

Have now crunched several Aqua wu's, & find that they are variable length, with the long ones (up to 20 hrs) granted over 600 credits.

Aqua has a slight hiccup. Single & dual cores, no problem, but there is a hitch with quads. Mine only downloaded 3 wu's & thought that there was a problem with my quad. Found out through their forum, it's not so. There's a problem with the run time prediction on Aqua. This morning quad was running 4 wu's, but since it reported in earlier, went down to 2, but now running 3.

Now have quads running Aqua & WCG (Child Cancer).

I personally haven't seen this issue on my quad, but then again I'm usually a multi-project cruncher. That being said, I've been out of Docking wus (my second project on my quad) for a little while now and my box still crunches 4 Aqua wus without issue. I'm using BOINC v6.6.15...

As far as time prediction - that's more of an issue with the scheduler built into BOINC than anything. I see your using v6.2.19 on at least one of your quads (v6.4.5 on another), so you may want to upgrade the client and see if it helps. V6.6.17 is the current Beta client and 6.4.7 is the current recommended client for x64 machines. They've been doing a lot of rewrites of the scheduler due to the new GPU extensions so a newer version may help somewhat with your issues.

Thanks for that. I didn't realise I was using different versions. Will update them all (Internal that is)

Normally do that when they come in for servicing. Also update Anti-Virus & IE this time around.

I have found it's only a problem on some projects. On my cuda machines, einstein says work units will take a couple of hundred of hours to finish,
they only take 6 or so, then sztaki the manager says 5 min, yet some of those take 4 hours. All the gpu apps time out right. Sure messes things up. I have put 6.4.7 on one just to see if it helps any. I hope it gets better soon.

Darn it! Aqua wu's seem to be drying up  Just when I'm on a roll (30k today) - according to boincstats, would have hit 5 mill before 2nd anniversary

Don't like having cores sit idle, so starting Poem.

All hosts (internal for now) on 6.4.7. 14 of 15 externals updating when serviced. No 15 (NET-23) is off the radar, just found out it's on its way to Pakistan as a present. So it looks like Dacom's going International before time

:P Ya I think 6.4.7 is the way to go. The one I put it on runs fine.

Same here, since putting it on all rigs, Aqua has been coming through without any problems.

Only one problem remains!!! just received this quarter's fuel bills OUCH  £794.55. This is way over my regular bills, so it leaves me no option but to reduce power usage.

Will continue to crunch 24/7 until 31/3, then from 1/4, will reduce to 16/7 to see what difference that makes.

Unless the problem on the bill is a mistake by the power company. We did not receive an electric bill for last quarter 2008 & the one received today states 12/9 to 11/12/08. Will call them tomorrow, & if this bill is for 12/9/08 to 12/3/09, then the average monthly usage is correct & will stay crunching 24/7. If it's not, will definitely have to reduce consumption.

Milkyway has problems right now... their site is up and down, sometimes they don't have enough work... and with a task-per-core limit of 6, I end up with nothing to crunch on their project...

It looks like my days as a power cruncher are over  Got back from London yesterday only to find a nasty surprise in the post. Received 2nd electric bill for 12/12/08 to 13/3/09, bringing total bill to £970.44.

So will continue crunching 24/7 until 31/3, then from 1/4, will only be running original 4 rigs.
