That is one of the coolest things I have seen in years. If you don't mind me asking, what did it land up costing you in the end?

£372.46 ($671 Can), that's including 2 special issues with DVD's.

If you liked the Solar System, follow the EMSO thread as that one will be more detailed & I'm looking forward to building it.

Engineers  When I received the psu, there was also a notification with a replacement gear for the Earth/Moon. Apparently this was causing the Orrery to stick & judder every so often. Replaced part as requested, but found it still juddery & this bugged me since

Spent all morning stripping it down & making sure that everything was aligned correctly, but it still judders.

After spending what seemed like ages watching it, found the problem

The gear is sitting too high on the gear arm so that it's not meshing properly. On looking closer, found that the plastic washer between the arm & gear is causing the problem, so removed it. Now running perfect.

Have also measured it so that I can make or buy a nice showcase for it - But it's going to be BIG! 21" square & 15" high (not including a base). Was thinking of making/getting a solid wood base & installing lighting.

On last trip to London, bought a JVC HDD 60gb Camcorder. Videoed Solar System.

Solar System

On digital camera, I can set various lighting options (in this case, Tungsten), but cannot find these settings anywhere on Camcorder (personally, don't like the quality). Is this standard or is there a way to set lighting?

Pawly, you're a  That's exactly what I was thinking of as that's one of my favourite instrumentals - Was also thinking of making it 10 min video with 2001 followed by Holst:The Planets, maybe Saturn or Jupiter or possibly Mars.

Really glad you liked it after waiting patiently for it to be completed. Now I'm looking forward to seeing the EMSO complete, but really feel  that i have to wait until march 2010

Wow, had my new landlord visited this afternoon (female & a nice woman). Toilet cistern & taps on kitchen sink needed urgent replacement & items delivered this afternoon with the plumber arriving tomorrow to install (nice - fast work). While she was here, she spotted the solar system & requested to see in in operation. Did so & was gobsmacked by her reply...... she offered £1000 cash. Tempted, But said no.

She also requested that I let her know when the EMSO is complete.

Where do you get the kit to build the working model of the solar system ?? I have always wanted one! Does it have another name ?? I've been searching online for one for awhile but with no luck (hence why I'm wondering if it has another name.) It looks so cool!

I love the the lotr chess set .... but I don't know how to play. I would buy one just to look at it! ..................drool..

Hi Sara, welcome to the team. It was actually a partwork built up over 52 weeks. Check out Eaglemoss Publications, they may do overseas orders. As for the LotR Chess collection, be aware that it is complete in 3 seperate chess sets, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers & The Return of the King. 1st 2 sets are complete & just have 15 pieces to go to complete the trilogy. Should be complete by April 2010. For more info, check out www.lotr-chess.co.uk

Also, if yo liked the Solar System, check out the EMSO thread, that looks like it's going to be a lot better & more detailed.

Edit: - It may still be possible to order...try the following... http://www.build-solar-system.com/
