Hi there everyone! Just a quick introduction!

Name is Roy, currently still living in the Netherlands, but hoping to be moving to Calgary, AB as soon as I can. Reason for that is my girlfriend living there with her two amazing kids.

I just started using BOINC, but I've been running several projects over the last couple of years of which most were standalone.
Projects that I used to or still run and support:

SETI@HOME (a long time ago)
Folding@Home (still a member of Dutch Power Cows)
TSC (still a member of Dutch Power Cows, although TSC is going down soon)
World Community Grid (BOINC user, member of Dutch Power Cows and participator of the DPC Stampede 2009 which is still ongoing)

I decided to start Rosetta aswell and join team Canada for that. I will probably jump to this team on various other projects in the future aswell, although I'm not a really big points creator. Every little bit helps though right? ;)

Hoping this will give everyone a brief idea of who I am and what I try to do to give the projects my share.

Welcome! We've had a few friendly competitions with the DPC in the past so it's always nice to see other teams members stop by for a chat. Big numbers aren't that important as long as you're contributing and having fun!

Where do you live in the Netherlands? I enjoyed the country quite a bit the last time I was there - I was even there for Koninginnedag which was a blast!

Hopefully we'll see you around the forums...

Born and raised in Venlo (province of Limburg), lived in Ede (province of Gelderland) for a couple of years, but I'm back in Venlo now until I can get together with my girl and the kids.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll certainly try to hang around from time to time!

Never made it to Venlo - closest I got was Eindhoven. All in all a very beautiful country, with great people, but I missed the mountains. I'll definitely be back again one day though...

Thanks TheHarperdragon! I noticed I'm not the only Dutchman in here which is good! ;)

Were you born in Canada yourself? :)

Thank you very much Pawly!

WCG and Rosetta are actually the first two projects I run in BOINC, all the other projects I used to participate in were ran by their own clients.

I was actually just reading through some family history and found out my Grandfather was one of the supposedly 32 Canadians left alive after the liberation of Eindhoven during WWII. He was presented a signed scrolll of appreciation from the mayor of Eindhoven on September 18, 1944 which he cherished more than any of his other war medals/memorabilia prior to his death. That got me looking into things a bit - didn't find any confirmation regarding the battle over Eindhoven, but found these interesting "facts" from Wikipedia (I never trust Wikipedia fully...):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_history_of_Canada_during_the_Second_World_War

"The royal family of the Netherlands eventually moved to Ottawa until the Netherlands were liberated, and Princess Margriet was born during this Canadian exile. In 1944-45, First Canadian Army was responsible for liberating much of the Netherlands from German occupation. Princess Juliana of the Netherlands, the only child of then–Queen Wilhelmina and heir to the throne, sought refuge in Canada with her two daughters, Beatrix and Irene, during the war. During Princess Juliana’s stay in Canada, preparations were made for the birth of her third child. To ensure the Dutch citizenship of this royal baby, the Canadian Parliament passed a special law declaring Princess Juliana’s suite at the Ottawa Civic Hospital “extraterritorial”. On January 19, 1943, Princess Margriet was born. The day after Princess Margriet’s birth, the Dutch flag was flown on the Peace Tower. This was the only time a foreign flag has waved atop Canada’s Parliament Buildings.

In 1945, the people of the Netherlands sent 100,000 hand-picked tulip bulbs as a post-war gift for the role played by Canadian soldiers in the liberation of the Netherlands. These tulips were planted on Parliament Hill and along the Queen Elizabeth Driveway.

Princess Juliana was so pleased at the prominence given to the gift that in 1946, she decided to send a personal gift of 20,000 tulip bulbs to show her gratitude for the hospitality received in Ottawa. The gift was part of a lifelong bequest. Since then, tulips have proliferated in Ottawa as a symbol of peace, freedom and international friendship. Every year, Canada’s capital receives 10,000 bulbs from the Dutch royal family."
