Thanks for the update!

Basically, what's the difference between 6.6.2 and 6.4.5?

By the way, if anyone's thinking about updating... I suggest you finish your current jobs before doing so... I just lost about 2 hours of calculation because I thought Boinc would continue my tasks.

For updating, it's always best to wait until jobs finish but you shouldn't have any issues if you're running projects that have proper checkpointing. It's always advisable to shut down BOINC (stop service if applicable) and back up the BOINC data directory prior to updates in order to help avoid lost work, especially if dealing with large jobs (e.g. Climate, Seti Astropulse, etc)

The main things they've been improving are GPU and work scheduling. Ageless keeps a good posting of change logs between releases here. I've copied a "summary" from the thread for you:

"Rom Walton wrote:
Howdy Folks,

We are pleased to announce the first of the 6.6 clients to be ready for
public consumption.

This release includes:

1. A new CPU/GPU scheduler.

2. An improved work-fetch policy.

3. Improved communication handling between the manager and client
software.

4. Consolidation between the grid based advanced view and the list based advanced view for accessibility improvements.

Future 6.6 releases will include the updated localization files that the localizers have been hard at work on.

We would like to thank all the testers for their hard work over the last few months, without your help we would not have had as stable a client as we have now.

----- Rom"

FYI its 6.6.20 NOT 6.6.2 - there's 18 different Alpha releases between the two! :P

Still no ATI GPU support (I think they're looking at v6.8 before they get this!).
