Hi all,

There is another Primegrid challenge beginning on June 12th, and this time it's a long one lasting 9 days! See the following post:

http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.p ... owrap=true#15986

Team Canada is currently in 24th place for the the overall challenge series:

http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/challenge.php#team

Be advised that this is an "LLR" challenge and is more intense on the CPU than the last sieve challenge. If you wish to participate please make sure your system is well-cooled, or change your BOINC settings to use less than 100% of the CPU.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to participate in this challenge as I normally do since I'll be doing field work in the Yukon for the next month (fun!). We are a small team, but a very tenacious one, so I'm sure we can still make an impact on the challenge! The long LLR challenges tend to have less participants so our tenacity will be rewarded!

Cheers, and go Canada!
Alan

I'll try to crunch these, but I'm not sure I could use my three CPUs. I'll try and if everything's ok, I'll gladly participate.

Sad to see you won't, you were one of the top 3 contestants in our team. Let's see how it turns out.

Have a nice work trip in Yukon! You're doing field work, what is your job exactly?

If someone posts a reminder the day before I'll crunch a few wus for the challenge...

LaPandaRoux-

Yeah, I'm pretty bummed about not being able to participate...especially since I just got the new ci7 up and running. If it were a sieve task I might at least chance the home computer running in my absence, but a month on LLRs without being able to monitor the CPU temps is too risky for me. I'll definitely be ready for the next challenge though:)

As for what I do, I'm a graduate student working on a degree in geochronology at Dalhousie U. It's not the most glamorous of professions, but it gets me to really cool places for extended field trips. I'll be spending most of the time mapping and collecting samples near Dawson City...and dodging clouds of mosquitoes!

user321-

I'll try to post a reminder the day before the challenge...

Cheers!
Alan

Hi all,

Just a quick reminder that the Primegrid Summer Solstice challenge begins tomorrow, June 12...a little more than 14 hours from now. Good luck everyone!

Cheers!

If I may add this: the workunits are likely to take more than 14 hours, so you can start right now if you want to.

Ill give it a try right now myself.

Hmmm... theyll prolly send a large large batch of WUs before the challenge starts,...

LePandaRoux -

That's odd, usually there is plenty of work available for PSP_llr project. Perhaps they've stalled it until the challenge begins. It should be worth noting that WUs downloaded prior to the start of the challenge will not count even if they are uploaded during the challenge. Also, yes, these WUs are very long indeed...28+ hours! These are huge prime numbers being tested at over 2M digits. If a prime is found it can be expected to be a top 15 prime in Chris Calswell's database!

Cheers!
