Hey Thanks Guys for the tips on various server versions. Will download them all, & test them out on backplanes.

Finally got server sorted out but lost all 7 months worth of backup, but all data safe which is what I was worrying about. Problem was the fault of Microsoft & myself. Hard drives detected in correct order in bios but WHS DOES NOT label the drives re: physical location, so when I removed one to upgrade to a bigger drive, I corrupted my workstation backup files. However, it still does not account for how Andrea's files were lost.

The documentation for the Solaris 10 package I downloaded is absolutely Awesome. It is going to take some time to learn & understand it, but personally, I think it will be worth it, as I really like it.

I found Ubuntu 7.0.4 fairly easy to get to grips with, so will try the Hardy Heron Server version next.

Serious guys, I am no IT genius, but love building systems & seeing them up & running, so again, many thanks for the support & advice.

PJ

Just downloaded Dingo & burning it to disk. Will start testing after dinner.

Ran the Live CD & it's looks great. Checked out the processor tab on the hardware info section & it shows up everything but the number of cores. It also has it's own run command similar to windows.

Going to play around with this & see if it will run boinc on all 4 cores.

The desktop really looks great.

I HAVE JUST HEARD THAT THE NEW VERSION OF PUPPY RUNS ON DUO CPU AND MOST LIKELY A QUAD AS WELL.
ITS STILL IN TESTING STAGES WITH ALPHA 6 ALREADY RELEASED FOR TESTING.
SOON ALL US PUPPY CRUNCHERS WILL BE ABLE TO UPGRADE TO A DUO OR QUAD.
