My 18 year old son is a pain in the butt, I love him dearly but he drives me crazy. I used to have my AMD Sempron in his room and I always asked him to leave it running, but no he said that he hates the noise at night, and that boinc slows it down when he is surfing, this inhibited my crunching so much that I moved the computer out of his room downstairs into the sitting room where it is merrily working away now.

Then he asked me for my windows dual core laptop, I thought to myself, mmm... its quiet and faster so his original concerns shouldn't be a problem so I loaned it out to him on the previous conditions, that he leave it running and didn't switch off my boinc. This arrangement lasted quite well for about 2 weeks. Tonight he has loaded something onto the laptop and after 30 seconds of loading up windows I get the Blue Screen Of Death God I hate Windows but sometimes you just can't avoid it. My son pleaded ignorance and the immortal phrase 'Hey it wasn't me'. So here I am at 12.30am Irish time having to reload the drive with windows from scratch because I cant get into safe mode even without getting the 'BSOD', its a good job I not tired tonight so I have settled down with a beer and a lot of Patience lol, Johnny Guinness knows this story from old  - timmy

Ouch, Timmy my boy, you could have saved yourself a lot of grief

Next time it happens, TAKE out the HD (if it's IDE, change jumper to slave), attach it to your laptop & run FULL scandisk on it. 9/10, that clears the problem & then just reinstall the HD.

If you're unfortunate to hit the 10th time, oh well, you have a genuine reason to spent another night with several cans of "The Black Stuff"
