Hi guys.

I've attached to WCG to help the team with the Xmas Race.

However, I've found that WCG has taken over my system. I have projects set @ 100% so that they share 50& resources. WCG has downloaded over 60 wu's & allocated resources as follows: - WCG 90.91 S@H 9.09.

Is this normal for WCG?

Have you had the other project(s) attached for a long period of time? If so it may have something to do with short/long term debt. You can check out BoincDV.exe (just Google it!) to reset your debts. I'm no expert in the matter, but it's worked for me in the past when I've had similar problems.

My understanding of the issue is that when you run a project, every work unit crunched produces negative long term debt. The total sum of your projects "debts" will equal zero. Therefore when you add a new project with a high resource share, BOINC will allocate it a "positive" debt value indicating that very few wus have been crunched. This has the result of BOINC allocating more resources to that project until the debt loads equalize (and subsequently reducing the resource share to your other project). Running BoincDV will reset all project debt loads to 0 so your resource share will equalize without requiring you to run the new project at higher resource load.

Hope that kind of made sense, if not someone else may be able to explain it better than me...

user312 is correct, once the debt clears it will go to 50/50, I usually just let it run, it will balance after a couple of days.

Somthing I do any time I attach to a new project is be ready to hit the "No New Tasks" button the moment I think I'm getting more work than I want. Then I clear all debt and wait till the cache is down a bit before I allow new tasks again. I've had a couple projects go wild on me in the past and feed more work than is possible in the time limit.

This is really weird! Have just attached workstation to WCG - D'L'ed 40 wu's & is running 50/50 with S@H - 1 core working on each project.

Still running 90.91 & 09.09 on server.

Are you running the same version of BOINC on both systems? They do change how the scheduler functions every now and then between versions. I'm recently upgraded my home PC to v5.10.30 from v5.10.20 and have had continual issues with the scheduler ever since. There's even times when this box only runs on 1 core for hours on end because the scheduler refuses to download any work from the projects I'm actively running that have work available (this box is connected to all projects I'm attached to - currently 67 projects). What really screws it over is the fact that I keep a lot of projects that don't currently have any work, or are still in startup phase and haven't produced work yet, active on this box so the long term debts get pretty high at a farily rapid pace. The only solution I have for this box is to run BOINCdv.exe and clear the debts so work will download again for the active projects with work currently available (on this box that would only be WCG and SZTAKI).

Thanks guys.

Have suspended s@h on both systems as all the wu's are for Jan/Feb - got all 4 cores running WCG & boy, are the results flying in. Last time I checked, the team were only several hundred points behind DPC.

7 days to go, so it would be nice if the team ended up 1st.

[Edit Just checked @ 03:38 GMT - we're 1st by just under 54K - Let's hope we can stay there    ]
