I started crunching July 19 1999. It's been 10 years since I started whit the old SETI@HOME. Took me all that time to crunch 3.4 mils credits. :). I hope to be able to crunch lots more in the next ten years. It's an addiction. What can i say.:) Good luck to all those new guys out there an stick whit it. You'll see, You'll get to your golds soon enough.

I used to crunch SETI classic around the same time, but I wasn't very consistent. I ran it for a few months back in 1999-2000, but travelled Europe for several months in the summer of 2000 and didn't get back into SETI again until around 2001-2002 sometime. I ran it for a year or so, and then got a new PC and I didn't get around to installing it again until 2004/5 and did the same thing. Since I got into BOINC in Sept 2006 I've crunched continually and plan to do so for quite some time - I like the large variety of projects available, and there's always something new coming along.

I think that was about mid 99 but not certain. I started back in 99 with Seti@home but due to tragic family circumstances, had other things to contend with at that time, so computing took a back seat, & anyway, it was all done via a 56k modem

It was only after Andrea got me a 3 in 1 cable package for my birthday back in 07 that I remembered seti & searched for it & found boinc - BAD NEWS that was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Came down with a disease worse than Ebola ............."Boinc Affliction"

Well, SETI classic wasn't introduced until Spring of 1999 so you couldn't have started before then! :P

From SETI@home (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_about.php):

Quote:
"Previous radio SETI projects have used special-purpose supercomputers, located at the telescope, to do the bulk of the data analysis. In 1995, David Gedye proposed doing radio SETI using a virtual supercomputer composed of large numbers of Internet-connected computers, and he organized the SETI@home project to explore this idea. SETI@home was originally launched in May 1999."

I started back in 2000 but like user312, took a lot of time off for a few years - had some trouble with my old rigs not liking it when we changed from BOINC Classic. Been at it hot and heavy again for a little under a year now -- it is addicting!!!

I started Sept of 02, and like a few others did not do very much for years. I guess I never really got hooked till a couple of years ago, and ya it is totally addicting.

June 24 1999 and took some time off. Did 2,000 SETI units before I stopped for a few years.

I don't remember- it all started with SETI -( now called Classic SETI) which I crunch ocassionally. It wasn;t until joiing CC when I expanded Pilot's projects- that was just over 2 years ago. I would have to hunt dowm the info on when I initially started. I can tell you this Pilot has out done herself. Compared to the previous systems I've had; Pilot has not only proven vast stability, she has also out performed, out lasted her predecessors.

And I'm still working on upgrades!!! As long as I have the room to upgrade- I can't buy 2nd system.
The next upgrade is a 2nd 1 gig RAM card. :yup:

side note- OMG those smiles are small lol

Hey Bruce! Welcome to the forums - looks like you've got a GPU or two running there!

Yep I had 3 nVidia GPU's going but had to retire my old P4 with an 8400gs in it due to a need for repairs and lack of funds to make said repairs. So I'm down to 2 GPU's now 1 gtx275 and a 9500gt. Still doing pretty good in the credit department though.

As long as you've got another GPU project going as backup for all the Collatz outages! :P

Luckily Collatz lets you keep a fair size cache, so even though Collatz goes down now n' then, I seldom run out of work. I've kept my CPU's busy running MW (opt app) and Aqua. 8)
