MEET "JACKIE"
HER AND HER MATE "GEORGE" HAVE TAKEN UP RESIDENCE IN THE KIDS PLAYGROUND AT MY WORK.
VERY TAME. I WAS ONLY 5 FEET AWAY.
I SAW ONE OF THESE DODGING TRAFFIC IN DOWNTOWN LAST WEEK. THE JACK RABBIT POPULATION IS PRETTY HIGH FOR A MAJOR CITY. HERES A QUESTION TO PUT OUT THERE.
CAN OR COULD A RABBIT JUMP UP TO A RAISED VEGETABLE GARDEN ?? THERE IS A LARGE RAISED GARDEN ONLY A HUNDRED FEET AWAY BUT THEY HAVEN'T TOUCHED IT. IT IS LESS THAN 3 FEET HIGH. IN ALL MY WATCHING OF WILDLIFE SHOWS, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE JUMP UP ONTO SOMETHING.

Good question.

In my experience a short fence will deter most rabbits from entering an area. However, if its a question of being able to reach something edible, most rabbits can "Stand" on their hind feet (as long as they can lean against something with their front feet). For example, my father wrapped his fruit tree saplings in chicken wire but only 2 feet high. They ate the bark around the top of the wire. Needless to say he has extended the barrier.

Also, rabbits use snow to their advantage. Entering places that were to high previously after a snow fall "raises" the ground.

THANKS PAWLY
I THINK THAT ANSWERS MY QUESTION. THIS PLANTER BOX WAS BUILT FOR THE DAYCARE KIDS TO HAVE A PLACE FOR THEIR OWN GARDEN. ITS 40 FOOT LONG, 8 FOOT WIDE AND STANDS ABOUT 3 FOOT HIGH. MADE OF TIMBERS. SO I GUESS THEY CAN'T JUMP THAT HIGH ANYWAY.
THE ONLY PESTS WE HAVE HAD IN IT ARE GOPHERS WHICH DIG UP FROM UNDERNEATH.
I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE WINTER CAUSE ALL THATS PLANTED THERE IS ANNUAL PLANTS AND THEY GET CLEARED OUT BEFORE WINTER.
THANKS
