Can only think that 6.6.20 somehow wouldn't work with the current configuration, so thanks for the tip User312. Much appreciated.

No problem. Since Win7 is so new, they are likely making minor compatibility changes to get it working correctly (although I haven't checked their WIP lately to confirm...).

Wasn't quick enough to book a place on the London MS Win7 Roadshow in June, but managed to get the next one at Birmingham on May 19th. Looking forward to Tuesday to hear what MS has to say.

Win 7 - UK

Unfortunately, due to the idiots in the EU, European customers cannot upgrade from Vista because of IE. Only a clean installation is allowed. Did try a workaround using Vista. Used a MAPS ISO & a different Product Key, but it wouldn't accept it, so I think it would be the same with the MAPS ISO's of Win 7

Also, got an early Xmas present via an e-mail from MS today. All Certified, Gold Partners & MAPS subscribers will receive their copies of Win 7 sometime in late August...great, that's my LAN upgraded (Win 7 works great with Server 2008)....now just looking forward to Office 2010 Enterprise :)

With all versions of Windows, I always tended to do a fresh clean install rather than upgrade to a newer version. Mainly due to numerous problems with Windows upgrades in the past.

Until now. I am really impressed with Microsoft. just for a test, I upgraded Andrea's rig to Win 7 (knowing that if any problems, I can always restore to Vista via Home Server). No need whatsoever. It was the smoothest upgrade I've ever seen in over 20 years. Well done MS. ALL programs that were running under Vista (& some of those were originally XP only), are running smoothly (fingers crossed).

Only problem I've experienced is on my workstation. After upgrading Andrea's, I upgraded rig & still getting problems experienced under Vista with one added annoying problem, net & network access keeps dropping out.

Now pretty sure that the fault lies with the rig, as it started having these problems when being the 1st rig setup after the move to new home. Thought Win 7 upgrade would resolve issues (originally had seperate hd running win 7 beta/rc with no issues with main hd running Vista). Oh well, strip time :(

Also, very impressed with the new improved media center (wasn't very keen with XP MCE or Vista's version).

Only one niggling complaint...........with Vista, there was an icon on the taskbar to enable aero flip, but with Win 7, you have to use 3 keys, ctrl, Win logo & tab.

I recently upgraded an old laptop to Win7 Ultimate and it's definitely far better than Vista. The only thing I really miss is the classic user interface, but I can adapt to that pretty easily. What's truly amazing is that it's running fine on 4-5 year old hardware with only 512MB of shared RAM (480MB (?) available to the OS) - minimium specs call for 1024MB. It actually runs faster than the old XP Home that was installed on it previously.

I've got full versions - professional and ultimate, but these are through MS. Not sure if it's "on the shelf" yet...

It's released to the general public on 22/10/09. like User312, I got mine through MS' Action Pack Subscription via it's Partner Program (excellent value for money IMO). About 10 days before our move, I ran a test on a P4 HT running XP Home & 512mb ram. Win 7 installed & ran, albeit fairly slow, but nowhere near as slow as XP. Also tested on a neighbour's Asus netbook (they corrupted the system & wanted me to repair so teased them with win 7), it ran fairly smoothly.

As it currently stands, I think a lot of people will be caught out on this one. I personally think that it is a lot better than Vista SP2 as it is, & I'm one of those who adamently stuck to the current O/S until the 1st service pack became available for a new O/S before installing it. I originally only installed Win 7 32/64 as test installations, but have been pleasantly surprised, so much so, that they are no longer test installations but running systems (until win 8 that is  ).

Been having a few problems lately with Win 7 & MS' last malware update (KB890830). On my workstation, it messed up the bios, drive detection & Win 7's linking - "picture.library.ms" no longer working. Since then, have found that it has affected others as well & that it's not just win 7 that was affected, it has hit several Server 2003 installations (not mine though, thank goodness).
